VGChartz is celebrating the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic by looking at the sales of every Star Wars game released from 2005 to today. There have been 15 games released in the franchise since 2005. The sales data included are through the week of November 26 and was collected when the data was broken down by Americas, EMEAA and Japan.
This is the third of four articles and it will focus on the Star Wars games released on a Microsoft platform, the Xbox 360 and the original Xbox. The first looked at the sales of every platform combined. The second focused on the games released on a Sony platform and the fourth will focus on the games released on a Nintendo platform.
The global sales of Star Wars games for the Xbox 360 fluctuate from 2.4 million for the best selling game, all the way down to 293,000. There have been six Star Wars games released on the Xbox 360. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga are the two games to sell more than one million units. The Force Unleashed games are the most popular series of Star Wars PlayStation 3 games, selling a combined 3.30 million units. The LEGO series sold a combined 3.07 million units.
Two Xbox 360 Star Wars games sold more than one million units, while number three and four did sell more than half a million units. The Force Unleashed games sold a combined 2.30 million units. The LEGO series sold a combined 2.00 million units.
No Xbox 360 Star Wars game in EMEAA sold one million units. However the top two did sell more than half a million, while the next three sold more than 200,000. The Force Unleashed games sold a combined 1.09 million units. The LEGO series sold a combined 1.08 million units.
The global sales of Star Wars games for the original Xbox fluctuate from 1.6 million for the best selling game, all the way down to 630,000. There have been five Star Wars games released on the Xbox from 2005 and onward. The top three games sold more than one million units and the bottom two sold more than half a million units. The two LEGO games sold a combined 2.38 million.
One Xbox Star Wars game in the Americas sold one million units, while the top four sold more half a million. The LEGO series sold a combined 1.53 million units. Battlefront II (Xbox) sold 1.16 million units.
No Xbox games sold even half a million units in EMEAA and one didn’t even reach 200,000. Battlefront II (Xbox) sold 440,000 units, with the Revenge of the Sith just behind it with 430,000 units sold.
Monthly Sales for Select Games
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (X360) sold 1.05 million copies in its first month with 696,000 of it being in the Americas. Sales in the Americas average between 5,000 and 10,000 each month for the last 12 months, while in EMEAA the game is selling a couple thousand copies each month.
LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (X360) sold 155,970 units in its opening month worldwide. The game has been selling consistently since its release with strong legs. The still manages to sell 20,000 copies a month in the Americas, while sales in EMEAA are almost nonexistent.
LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (Xbox) sold 243,810 copies in its opening month in the Americas. There is no EMEAA monthly sales data and the Americas data only consists of the game’s first 15 months on sale. The majority of copies sold occurred in the first four months.
