Miyamoto Says They Have Creative Ideas for Vitality Sensor
by VGChartz Staff, posted on 03 August 2009 / 1,499 ViewsIf there's one announcement that raised more than a few eyebrows during Nintendo's conference in E3 2009, it was the Vitality Sensor, as it seemed like no inmediate application for the device had been thought of, and as such, it was received with much skepticism.

In an interview with Mercury News, Shigeru Miyamoto spoke about the device and took the chance to assure fans that they have creative ideas in mind for it and to ask for some confidence.
"Ideally we would have been able to talk about this in terms of the software implementation rather than just the sensor itself. I don't have any indication for you (of what we have in the works) other than to say that we have lots of very creative ideas. We understand the challenge before us, and we have met these challenges in the past. We just ask that people have confidence in us."
Miyamoto also spoke about the motion-sensing controllers and how they had success by delivering it quickly, comparing it with the challenge both Sony and Microsoft face.
"One of the challenges is not just to create a natural controller, but how do you get it into the hands of the people? How do you do that cost effectively? I think we've accomplished that. We have sold millions of controllers at a good price point. And we have that delivery system successfully already implemented. For other companies starting from zero and trying to figure out how to get it out there at a decent price point is a big challenge."

Whether the Vitality Sensor is a success or a failure remains to be seen, but it seems that Miyamoto is very enthusiastic about it. He also seems to know that the impressions of the gaming world, at least until a practical application is shown, have not been positive yet.
