Astral Chain Protagonist Doesn't Have Any Dialogue - News

Platinum Games animation artist Takahiro Iwagam in a blog post revealed the protagonist in Astral Chain doesn't have any dialogue. This is so the player can project themselves onto the character.

"The main character of Astral Chain isn’t completely unvoiced; you can hear them calling out to their Legion as they fight," said Takahiro. "However, the main character doesn’t have any dialogue of their own in the main story cutscenes. Before I started animating anything at all, director Takahisa Taura and I discussed what overall impressions each character’s facial expressions should have.

"Taura told me, 'I want players to be able to project themselves onto the player character, so they naturally feel like part of the game. So don’t give the player character any extreme expressions that might give them too much of a predefined personality.'"

Astral Chain will launch for the Nintendo Switch on August 30.

While I don't mind at all, they could have just had 3-4 voice actors per gender like in Mass Effect or something similar. You could also just mute the voice if you want to make the character your own.

This was somewhat expected. I usually prefer voiced characters, but whenever the focus is overwhelmingly on the gameplay I don't particularly mind. I guess this is the price to pay for customization.
