Capcom is Aiming for Resident Evil 7 to Selling 4M Units Day One - News

Capcom is aiming for Resident Evil 7 to selling four million units in its first day.

"Commercially, [Resident Evil 7] is probably the biggest Capcom game we are releasing on the new machines," Capcom marketing director Antoine Molant told MCVUK.

"deally, we’d love to sell 4m on Day One globally. That would be great. Looking at what we see in the pre-orders and trends these days, we’re pretty confident we are going to get there. All the signs that we have seen across the market, whether it’s from the UK or from other territories, are very positive so far. We’re not sitting back and relaxing at all because we want to push that. The confidence is there."

Molant was asked how well pre-orders for the game are doing.

"To be very frank, they’re very good," he said. "Keeping in mind the real pre-order campaign started a week ago with the Steelbook announcement and some of the Collectors’ Edition announcement... before doing that, they were quite above what we were expecting. We’ve got the previews coming out and some more launching in December. On that front, we’re very happy."

Resident Evil 7: biohazard launches for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC outside of Japan on January 24, 2017 and in Japan on January 26, 2017. The PS4 version is compatible with PlayStation VR.

10 people agree with you, but Capcom thinks there are 4million who would disagree. Wonder who is right.

Capcom is out of mind guys.

You know I would much rather if Capcom were fully concerned and invested in making sure that the game was complete and functional on Day one, rather than already counting how much money they're going to make from the sales of it.

Get the game ready first, then let the sales come in, Don't "street fighter 5" this one.

wasn't a DLC exlcusive for PS4 already announced for some time after the release ?

Probably will have the same fate as RE6: huge sells first week just because it's called "Resident Evil" and 80% less sells the 2nd week, and even weaker after.

80% is a pretty normal drop for a big game. Halo 5 dropped around 80% in second week, Uncharted 4 dropped around that too, as did Gears of War 4. The only games that don't drop that much are new IPs that rely on Word of Mouth to sell, and game from a popular franchise will have a big drop due to a lot of people buying it day 1.

Make a 3rd person survival horror into 1st person corridor simulator and expects to sell 4m. Alright then...

Resident Evil 7 won't sell that much, that is more than COD IW and Battlefield 1 in their first week. This franchise isn't that popular.

Good luck.

On day One? Nah I can't wait for the sales to flop (in their eyes) and for them to rework the franchise AGAIN. Just accept 1million day one sales for god sakes.

Resident evil is a well known ip, but if it could reach these numbers on first day is hard to say

Hasn't Capcom learned from their unrealistic predictions in the past? It seems like they miss their forecast more often than they achieve them!

I dont think Horror games sell that well. It will probably sell 4m lifetime.

Well TLOU sold 8 million copies and its a survival "horror" game. So RE should do more. Ok actually I doubt it will sell over 8 million copies lifetime due how bad received RE5 and 6 were.

I have no doubt the game's gonna do well, but 4 million seems ambitious for a game that's only sold around 2 million day one on its last two entries. Maybe more people are excited about RE's return to horror than I'm giving it credit for?

They are aiming far too high. The current game industry climate has more gamers awaiting for price drops rather then buying sequels to games that their predecessor was known to have some sort of issues. Look at Watchdogs 2 or Titanfall 2, superior games to the originals but people didn't flock out to pick them up. Even in Japan the same thing happened with the most recent Tales of game.

Some of the most popular games this holiday season didn't even hit 4 million day 1...

Their crazy loons. The best selling franchise currently isn't doing that in its first week, yet RE7 is going to do that in a single Day. A full month and I might agree considering it such a departure from the others, but a single Day crazy loons

I dont know about 4 million, but I sure as hell will get it day one! :D

As a Day 1 objective, four million is too much. Resident Evil 5 and 6 got panned heavily, and I don't think they can create so much hype that they sell that amount in just one day.

They only have 1 month to create hype.

5 wasn't panned by critics at all.....that's a made up myth lol
