PS4 vs Xbox One vs Wii U USA Lifetime Sales – May 2015 Update - PS4 8.0M, Xbox One 7.2M, Wii U 4.1M - Sales

Welcome to the latest edition of the ‘PS4 vs Xbox One vs Wii U USA’ article. This series compare monthly and lifetime sales of the 8th generation of home consoles - the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U in the US.

 

Looking at the total sales of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U in the US in May shows how close the race is between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in this particular region. The two consoles have been within one million units of each other since November 2014.

The PS4 has sold 8.00 million units lifetime in the US, the Xbox One 7.24 million units, and the Wii U 4.13 million units.

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 7,999,070

Xbox One Total Sales: 7,235,694

Wii U Total Sales: 4,132,067

 

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have both outsold the Wii U every month in the US since they released in November 2013. The PS4 outsold the Xbox One by 12,723 units for the month of May, and the Wii U by 109,614. The PlayStation 4 outsold the Wii U by 96,891 units.

When you compare monthly sales to a year ago the Xbox One is up, while the PlayStation 4 and Wii U are down. The Xbox One is up 50,168, PlayStation 4 is down 55,982 units, and the Wii U is down 29,170 units.

PlayStation 4 Monthly Sales: 152,837

Xbox One Monthly Sales: 140,114

Wii U Monthly Sales: 43,223

This makes no sense to me. Am I missing something? Did the Ps4 outsell the Wii U by 109k or 96k?

So many things to say about the American state of gaming. It mostly consists of "Why would they buy that?", but I won't go into details.

I don't know what you mean? The American gaming market is the most interesting and diverse one IMHO. The European gaming market however...that's where i ask myself: "Why would they biy that?".
