Ubisoft: Watch Dogs Sells 4 Million Units First Week - News

Ubisoft has announced that its latest hit Watch Dogs has sold four million units in its first week on sale. This sets a new record for the fastest selling new IP in gaming history. This is after breaking the sales record for a new IP in its first 24 hours.

"With such strong sales momentum and positive feedback from gamers, Watch Dogs has positioned itself as the must-have game of the moment," said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. "We’re really proud of this achievement, and are confident that the Watch Dogs brand has a promising future."

Watch Dogs also set another record by selling more units in its first week than any other Ubisoft title. Topping established franchise Assassin's Creed, which saw Assassin's Creed III sell 3.5 million units in its first month on sale.

Watch Dogs is available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The Wii U version will be released this Fall.

So, 1.2 milion Mario Kart 8 and 4 milion Watch Dog...
reminds me the week of 6 years ago with Mario Kart 6 and GTA IV.

Except that GTA was the biggest franchise outside of the Nintendo ecosystem whereas Watch Dogs is a brand new IP. Mario Kart 6 would be another great title for the already successful Wii while Mario Kart 8 is the last hope for the Wii U to do something.

I'll bet that at least 1.5 million of those were the PS4 version. This should solidify the PS4's place WW, so the Wii-U probably didn't outsell it that week, even with MK8

You seem to be forgetting this also came out for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. At best I would say it sold 800k. Though considering the insanely large user base of the Xbox 360 & PS3 compared to next gen I highly doubt it sold even that much.

Watch Dogs released 3 days earlier than MK8 so this isn't fair comparison. Next week will be interesting.

Not only are these sales crazy but the fact that the PS4 version outsold the combined XboxOne/Xbox360/PS3 sales with a 8.1million install base is madness.
