PlayStation Vita Vs. PSP Global:
Gap change in latest month: 357,628 - PSP
Gap change over last 12 months: 8,273,851 - PSP
Total Lead: 9,705,370 – PSP
PlayStation Vita Total Sales: 5,657,694
PSP Total Sales: 15,363,064
The PlayStation Vita has been on the market for 21 month and only beat the PSP in its first and third month. Since then the PSP has outsold the PlayStation Vita every month. It took seven months for the gap to grow to one million units, but since then the gap has grown at a much faster pace.
In the latest month the PlayStation Vita fell a further 357,628 units behind the PSP, bringing the total gap to 9.71 million units. Both handhelds launched in December in Japan, the PSP in December 2004 and the Vita in December 2011. The Vita launched in February 2012 outside of Japan, while the PSP launched in North America in March 2005 and September 2005 in Europe.

BTW good article! I was worried about WiiU after your WiiU gap, but after seeing Vita I can see it's not the only system to struggle. Save 3DS for after Pokemon if possible.
PSP had Grand Theft Auto, and good JRPG's only a couple years after launch. PSV consistantly only has 1 or 2 good exclusives planned, and they rarely target the Japanese Audience. Plus no Monster Hunter.
However MH being at Nintendo instead of Sony is hurting the PSV brand real badly.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 3DS is tracking behind the PSP too.
