EA: More than 12M People have Played a SimCity in 2012 - News

Electronic Arts told MCVUK that more than 12 million people have played a SimCity within the last year. Also more than 80 percent of people in the US and Europe are familiar with the franchise.

"SimCity has huge public awareness worldwide," said Maxis boss Lucy Bradshaw. "SimCity 4 continues to sell quite well as a classic title. That is quite a healthy shelf life in the video games industry. And even today, modders in online communities like Simtropolis continue to add mods to SimCity 4."

"We wanted the next SimCity game to innovate the franchise," added Bradshaw. "Players have systems that are much more powerful than ten years ago, so we can really play with graphics and 3D."

Since the release of SimCity 4 in 2003, EA has released several spin-off games. The first true sequel in 10 years will be released on March 8, 2013.

I've preordered this, it was the online multiplayer with neighbouring cities for the first time that convinced me it was worth getting.

Hopefully it is worth it! I'm more of a wait and see mindset. But I love SimCity :)
