Hardware sales are a little better this week, up a total two percent compared to the previous week. However total sales are down 24 percent year on year. The 3DS is the biggest winner, up 11 percent week on week and 52 percent year on year.
Two games debuted in the top 30 this week. Fire Emblem: Kakusei (3DS) debuted at the top with sales of 245,402. There are no software milestones this week in the top 30.
Worldwide Hardware
Week on week sales are up for the Wii, Xbox 360, 3DS and Vita, flat for the PlayStation 3, and down for the DS and PSP. The 3DS is at the top this week with sales of 193,516 units, which is up 19,175 (-9%). The PlayStation 3 is down a tiny 812 (0%) to 162,971 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up just 888 (1%) to 133,847 units sold. The Wii sold 73,585 units, which is up 2,358 (3%). The PlayStation Vita is up 1,111 (2%) to 66,677 units sold. The PSP sold 28,622 units, which is down 2,742 (-9%) compared to last week. The DS is down 3,816 (-14%) to 22,921 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 16,162 (2%) to 667,316.
Year on year sales is up for the 3DS and down for everything else (excluding the Vita which wasn’t available a year ago). The PlayStation 3 is down 18,195 (-10%), the Wii is down 52,169 (-41%), and the Xbox 360 is down 23,090 (-15%). The PSP is down 116,967 (-80%) the DS is down 132,874 (-85%) and the 3DS is up 66,131 (52%). Year on year sales are down 210,487 (-24%).
After a huge increase for the Xbox 360 a week ago, as well as a tiny bump for the Wii and PlayStation 3, all three console sales are down this week. The PlayStation 3 is at its lowest sales of the year, while the Wii is just above it and the Xbox 360 is a good 15,000 above it. The PlayStation 3 has a 44 percent market share; the Xbox 360 has a 36 percent market share; and the Wii has a 20 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all three home consoles are down.
The 3DS has outsold its predecessor, the DS, by more than 8 to 1 and the Vita has outsold its predecessor, the PSP, by more than 2 to 1. The PSP has a 56 percent market share this week for the current generation handhelds and the DS has a 44 percent. The 3DS has a 74 percent market share for the next generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 26 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
Worldwide Software
Two games debuted in the top 30 this week. Fire Emblem: Kakusei (3DS) debuted at the top with sales of 245,402. The game launched in Japan with no release date anywhere else.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (X360) debuted at number two with sales of 224,800. The Game launched in North America and Europe, with no release date in Japan.
Other games in the top 10 that are not debuts include Kinect Star Wars (X360) at number three with sales of 75,202. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (PS3) is at number four with sales of 59,953. Mass Effect 3 (X360) is at number five with sales of 55,967.
Kinect Adventures (X360) at number six with sales of 55,588. Just Dance 3 (Wii) is at number seven with sales of 54,988. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (X360) is at number eight with sales of 54,259. Mario Kart 7 (3DS) is at number nine with sales of 48,105. Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 47,420.
Week on week software totals are up for the 3DS and Vita and down for every other platform. The Xbox 360 takes the top spot this week with sales of 1.85 million, a decrease of 77,713 (-4%). The PlayStation 3 sold 1.59 million games this week, a decrease of 208,139 (-12%). Wii software sales are down 151,951 (-12%) to 1.15 million. The DS sold 660,576 games, a decrease of 59,008 (-8%). The 3DS sold 635,119 games, which is up 184,278 (44%). PSP game sales are down 43,281 (-14%) to 269,080 games sold. The Vita sold 113,316 games, an increase of 8,621 (8%). Total combined software is down 337,193 (-5%) week on week to 6.27 million.
Year on year software totals are down across the board, except for the 3DS which is up. The PlayStation 3 is down 847,285 (-35%), the Wii is down 482,256 (-29%) and the Xbox 360 is down 428,619 (-19%). The DS is down 597,343 (-47%), the PSP is down 178,155 (-40%) and the 3DS is up 461,533 (266%). Total combined software is down 1.96 million (-24%) games sold year on year.
The Xbox 360 sold the most games this week for the third week in a row and the fourth time in 10 weeks. The PlayStation 3 led for the other six. PlayStation 3 software sales have dropped for seven straight weeks. The Xbox 360 has a 40 percent market share, the PlayStation 3 with 35 percent, and the Wii with 25 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago all three home consoles are down.
The DS leads this week and for the fifth time in 10 weeks, while the 3DS lead for four of the other weeks and the Vita for one. The DS has a 71 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 29 percent market share. The 3DS has an 85 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 15 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the DS is up, while the 3DS, Vita and PSP are down.
