Deluxe N.E.S. Set With R.O.B. Sells on eBay for $4,150 - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 16 March 2010 / 6,551 Views

At $127.41, the shipping alone can get a used DS or the whole God of War Trilogy.

After being locked in a glass box for 26 years with nothing to play but Duck Hunt and Gyromite, this unfortunate R.O.B. has finally found a home, thanks to an eBay user with a heart of gold.  This truly is an inspiration for us all.  I wonder if this buyer will be leaving it sealed in his untouched home, or if he'll smash it open so he can do the R.O.B.

Check out the eBay auction for some even sexier glamour shots of the entire lit display case.

@JPL78, this is a "lit launch display case." Nothing in that magical glass heaven has ever been used. And yes, it would be cheaper to buy them all in mint condition separately and then put them in your own lit glass box. But it wouldn't be "a lit launch display case." As crazy as I think this is... I've spent over $50 on a used NES game without a box or manual, and the game's not even good, just rare (Action 52). So I kinda of understand the insanity. :)

Yeah, I can't even remember what happened to my ROB, but that deluxe bundle was like nirvana for us one Christmas morning.

So, is the lesson here, used 25 year old Nintendo's cheap and abundant in pawn shops, a NES locked in a plastic case with accessories..... 4 grand? Is it the ROB that is so rare? I know its not the light gun.

Wow! I had this set. I traded my R.O.B. for 2 shoe boxes full of Garbage Pail Kids. at the time, I got the better deal.

@Silver-Tiger, this was a rare display case showing off the full Deluxe Set. The Deluxe Set actually came in a regular box that looks like this: http://www.dawdle.com/product-image/3_320754_w200.jpg

I remember seeing those displays at my local Toys R Us back in the 80's, man that brings back memories! However I do thing that dropping 4 grand on it is just a tad ludicrous lol... for 4 grand I'd want one of those mega arcade units from The Wizard complete with SMB3!

Its all about the collector. Does not matter if you do not think its worth 4150, to the guy who bought it, it definitely was. Good job and Enjoy looking at your purchase

You can get a full R.O.B. set or even another full Deluxe Set for $200 or $300 on eBay right now. The extra $4,000 is only for the lit display case. Whoa.

Damn by brother. I have everything in this set except for the motor that powered the spinning tops. He hooked a car battery up to it and spun that motor so fast the top didn't stop spinning for over 30 min. Unfortunately the motor stopped working after that. Maybe I should find a replacement.

Making something like this would cost less than $200.
