by VGChartz Staff , posted on 20 August 2007 / 958 Views

Microsoft has confirmed a pricedrop for the Xbox 360 across Europe on both the Core and Premium SKUs for August 24, 2007.  The Elite model, available for months in the United States, will be introduced on the 24th as well.

The Premium SKU (which includes a 20 gig hard drive) drops 30 pounds (~$60) to 249.99 on the 24th.  In Euros, the Premium SKU will now be available for 349.99.  The Core SKU (which does not include a hard drive) drops 20 pounds (~$40) to 179.99 - the same price as a Wii.  For the rest of Europe, the Core SKU drops to 279.99 Euros.

The Elite will launch for 449.99 Euros/299.99 Pounds.  Additionally, the Elite includes a 120 gig hard drive and an HDMI port.

Lastly, a 120 gig hard drive, a new black wireless controller, a rechargeable battery pack, and a Play and Charge Kit will all be available for purchase on the 24th.

so...
design from the scratch and make an only unique "hub" for video, music, and videogames is not killing the market???????

to
Pinthepimp only

please read and understand before write!!!!!!

infact I wrote:

"one between $ony and Micro$oft will leave the market."

to all:

5 years NOW!!!!

they failed many times attempting to set a only unique standard,an "hub",for media(music video ,games ect)!!!!!!

Early adopters will never buy a device that do so many thing!!!!

early adopters pretend always the non plus ultra...

the BEST NEW Media player
the BEST NEW HIFI
the BEST NEW Console

If i want an All-in-One device I'll buy a pc,like I buyed!!!!!!

your analisys are wrong!!!

lowering the price to compete will lower earnings.
lower earning means lower founds for developing.

$ony and Micro$oft are on the path of "big&bigger"...

this is the reason why one between two will not have enough founds for the next console...

is natural:
big fish eats small one...

who will be the small one????

who will be the shark and who the seal???

Nintendo is out of games...
It's like a whale in a Blue Ocean!!!!

@ Willem, actually the core for Europe was reconfigured with this price drop to have an HDMI port as well as the premium. Read the press release.

If you think gaming is what this is all about for Microsoft and Sony, then you are clueless on their business strategies. Its about getting the hub into the living room to distribute digital content. The next iteration of Xbox and PlayStation will not only have DVR capabilities, but the ability to work as a cable or satellite box or better yet their own cable service over broadband (remember Microsoft TV? its not dead).

Pinthepimp, Kudos for understanding market expansion. Xbox is in no current danger and PS3 is far from expired. Nintendo simply managed to find that magic way to create success for themselves without cutting to heavily into anyone elses pie.
Price cut in Europe should help in a market where 360 has already been performing well. The big question is what can they do to make any sort of impact in Japan.

The strange thing is that the XBOX won't have the HDMI support until around spring 2008.
So people still might wait for the better offer ( the premium with HDMI ).

I also expect Sony to drop the price in Europe, they're still at E 599 from the release ( though now it comes with 2 games + 2 controllers )

At the end of this month there is a big game event in Leipzig, I'm curious what Sony will pronounce there ;)

They are starting to get afraid that Wii will get their marketshare.

gbukowsk --> some of people still think that 360 will break after a while if you buy it, so... :p

It will help sales to some degree, before H3 comes. ;)

D-Fens - I'm not sure on retail of PS3 in europe, but in the UK we only got the 60GB SKU. RRP is £425, but you can pick it up cheaper, £400 or less, still with game/accessory deals.

Alko - M$ and Sony will certainly re-think their strategies, but they won't quit gaming. Nintendo will expand the value of the gaming market exponetially, and they'll want a piece of that action (who says someone else won't, Apple, Toshiba perhaps ?) And a Nintendo only market would be bad for the consumer, competition is good.

I think Nintendo will struggle to sate demand for the Wii, as publishers/devs get on board with the Wii, it's demand will increase, I think a realistic installed base prediction for the Wii is well into the Hundred million range. M$ and Sony realise who their real competition is, hence all the 'old skool' games being released now.

And I predict that the amount of weeks Xbox will outsell Wii in Europe or UK:

they are killing themselves...

at the end of this Gen one between $ony and Micro$oft will leave the market.

Reason 1:
All early adopters(sonians and boxians) will not trust any more them.

Reason 2:
X720 and ps4 willl not have enough founds to be developed again as "super-mega-HAL900-pc-console", presented to early adopters(look Reason 1) and sold as...

This will help MS. Again, kind of wish they'd been more aggressive; we'll see. For sake of comparison, what;s the PS3 going for over there [both skus]?

Why is it people assume because retailers sell under MSRP. That their is no price drop. The retailers will have more room to drop price even more if the MSRP is lower.

that is actualy not a price drop :-D

you can already get your hand on a premium for 300 €...

A pricedrop and the introduction of the Elite SKU will certainly increase sales significantly. The core is also being bundled with 5 arcade games (and being renamed the arcade pack or something) and priced the same as the Wii. Sales should at least double next week.

Who else thinks that sales will probably not be affected by an extreme degree by this drop?
