i will be playing this tomorrow night!
I know this game is much older than RDR, but the fact they went out of their way to remaster the game for modern systems, improve the lighting and redoing the cutscenes and textures, really puts R*'s offering to shame, especially when you look at the asking price alone.
Edit: Also turns out if you own the game on Steam, you get the Remaster entirely for free (also it currently costs £7.99 ).
Yup, they know how to treat there PC customers.
HYPE!!!! This is actually much more of a visual upgrade than what the first game received. Oh man when Quake 3 remastered drops.......
Thankfully Quake 2 is a short game, so I'll take a night or two off from my Baldur's Gate 3 binge to experience this game again! I'm glad it's a free upgrade!
Also, if anyone here plays on Xbox Series consoles, let me know how 8 player splitscreen works out xD
The only Quake I've played was Quake 3 Arena on the Dreamcast. Heck, I don't even think it was the full game, I think it might have been a demo from a demo disc (remember those?). My primary gaming systems over the years were:
Mattel Intellivision
Commodore 64
Commodore Amiga
Atari Jaguar
Sega Dreamcast
Xbox (all of them)
Only recently have I got my first proper gaming PC. I did dabble with MS-DOS games here and there over the years, but I nonetheless missed a LOT of iconic PC games.
Are the remasters of Quake 1 and 2 fun games on their own, without the benefit of nostalgia goggles?
They are definitely a lot of fun. While similar, they have different settings. Quake 1 being a dark fantasy game with an eerie and atmospheric soundtrack and Quake 2 having a sci-fi setting with a nu metal soundtrack lol. Quake 3 was exclusively multiplayer whereas the first 2 games also had single player campaigns. Which you can now play co-op both locally and online!
But ultimately, these are what the kids call "boomer shooters" or as what you and I know would know them as arena shooters. Fast paced, rocket jumping, blast the hell out of everything type game. So I would say there is some nostalgia goggle wearing required, but these are pioneering games that are still worth experiencing!
But plenty said MS werent releasing Bethesda games multiplatform anymore.. guess they failed to understand the term Case by Case and legacy titles.
Good on them for bringing this out. The that play it, the better
...This isn't going to entice anyone to prefer Microsoft's products. This is just (quite respectfully) milking what they have. They have absolutely no reason to keep things like this exclusive.
Didnt say it would entice people to buy MS products.
They didnt have to bring this game to rival consoles but they did.
Would Sony release the Original Ratchet n Clank game on rival platforms? Wouldnt make sense keeping it exclusive right?
As far as I can see, Sony bears little relevance in this particular comment thread. Microsoft seems to have a somewhat different strategy, but it also wouldn't make much sense to restrict such an ancient game that's already available on other platforms (including PlayStation, kind of) to your own platforms.
This move is a very consumer friendly approach. We want to see all companies doing these type of moves in the future. Bring the old games to all platforms to boost ip interests and increases the chance of future sequels
Not sure how much this makes sense for old games, since it's probably a trade-off in several ways and might not always be the best thing to put effort into, and there's timing to consider as well. Other than that, I don't really disagree, and I do like to see old games modernized in such a respectable fashion. I especially like the fact that if you own the original, you get a free upgrade.
This one even has special features on PlayStation and switch.
This is cool. Any idea how it graphically differs from the Quake II RTX version that dropped a few years ago?
I've been playing this and having a blast! I remember playing the original on PC with a friend. He controlled the movement and I did the shooting. I was young and there was no way my parents would have let me play it if I told them lol. My friends dad used to the play the multiplayer and we would watch sometimes.
Good shiet another welcome addition
Xbox releasing this on all Platforms.
Sony & Nintendo would never.
Seems the video game industry is going through a remake period.
