30m after 3 holiday quarters isn't great when I think about it. It really feels like 2023 will be the PS5 make or break year.

There was a chip shortage throughout most of the PS5's life cycle.
Despite that, it's about 6 million behind the PS4.

Yes. It's not a failure by any means. But for a Sony console I really think it needs a big year in 2023 to avoid loosing too much momentum.

When the PS5 will start to sit on shelves, we will talk about sales not being great.

My comment is more about how important 2023 is going to be for Sony and the PS5. Every console has a sales lifespan and the longer we go without it taking off the more likely we'll be that it'll get cut short.
Say for example: at this time next year if the PS5 is sitting somewhere between 40 to 45m consoles sold. I could easily see sonys top executives saying lets get the PS6 fast tracked into development.
On the other hand. If the PS5 is sitting at 50m and above. I could see those same executives saying we've finally got the momentum we desired and would be much more likely to stick with the console for a few more extra years.
