Capcom to Make PC Its 'Main Platform' in the Coming Years

Capcom to Make PC Its 'Main Platform' in the Coming Years - News

Capcom COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto with Nikkei said company going forward will "will mainly focus on PC software" in the coming years.

"PC is driving global sales," Tsujimoto said. "We have recently stated that we will make the PC our main platform. At this year’s Tokyo Game Show, we focused on exhibiting the PC version of Monster Hunter Rise, and I think people will be able to experience the change in our approach."

"The pandemic is changing the way people look at PCs," Tsujimoto added. "Smartphones are convenient, but their screens are small, and their touch panels are difficult to operate, so they are not suitable for home working or school classes. I think PCs will be the next big thing after smartphones.

"The PC can also play high-quality games, so the number of PC users should increase as understanding of the PC increases. We will expand our business for dedicated game consoles, which has been the mainstream up to now, but PC will be the mainstream in the future. Next year or the year after, we want to equalize the ratio of sales to PCs and dedicated consoles."

Thanks, VideoGamesChronicle.

"I think PCs will be the next big thing after smartphones." makes it sound like PC's are a brand new invention lol but I'm all for it!

I know right and according to some rumours there are also mini PC's that you can place under your TV. There are called PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. I haven't seen them yet though.

He's right tho, after 10 years where smartphones were the major thing, I also believe PC will make a huge comeback as people's main device

PC's for general use were on the decline and Steve Jobs was trying to torpedo the industry while the iphone was on the rise. A narrative was being created to suit the profits of the smart phones manufacturers.

But PC's never went away for gaming. I think it's just as the costs continue to fall for a gaming PC and console prices rise, more people are turning to PC. On top of that, love it or hate it, windows has become much more robust and requiring less tweaking since the XP days. Obviously XP was already a huge jump over previous versions, but I'm using the popular version from the early smartphone era as the example.

Basically it was always a stable audience that has only been growing since that time. It just wasn't getting a lot of media attention while smart phones were booming. But people are realizing that a PC can do what a ps5 or Xbox can do and more at a comparable level of simplicity.

So that is leading developers to PC because the audience keeps growing.

I highly, highly! Doubt a game like monster hunter will sell a lot more then the switch version.

I have a feeling he doesnt mean pcs will be there main focus, but more like they want to make sure console and pc release at the same time with the same quallity.

It really sounds like "old japanese man discovers PCs for the first time." Thinking this is a radical new invention bursting onto the scene and not something people have been gaming on forever. While it is good to cater to PC it's also dumb to expect out of nowhere growth from it. Japanese games are just catching up to a pc market that already exists.

Reminds me of when Sega was shocked at how well Persona 4 Golden sold on PC lol

On one hand, he says "main platform" but he later says that they want to "equalize" releases on PC with consoles.

Yeah, Capcom will need to clarify what exactly they mean by this announcement lol the way I interpret it is they'll develop the PC version first, then port the games to console. But that's just my guess.

Well, for most companies PC version first is quite normal even when the sales on consoles are bigger. It is just that they make that version and the tweaking and optimization for consoles come later since the three are quite similar for development nowadays.

Well, they first need to equalize sales before PC can become bigger than consoles for them. It's just a stepping stone.

PC is the new smartphone? And being maint platform by achieving what they do on console? This article is all bunkers.

They're mainly referring to their big budget AAA franchises like Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, etc.

MH: World actually sold better on PC in the West than on PlayStation according to Capcom
