Bethesda Softworks is celebrating the 10th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition on November 11, 2021 for the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC.

You can upgrade the Special Edition to the Anniversary Edition and it has a free next-generation upgrade from the PS4 and Xbox One to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Here is an overview of the Anniversary Edition:

Winner of more than 200 Game of the Year Awards, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim celebrates 10 years of adventuring in stunning detail. The Anniversary Edition includes a decade worth of content: the critically acclaimed core game and add-ons of Skyrim Special Edition, plus over 500 unique pieces of content from Creation Club such as quests, dungeons, bosses, weapons, spells. With Creations and Mods, there’s a lot more to discover.

Included Content:

  • Creation Club – The Anniversary Edition and Upgrade includes over 500 unique pieces of content from Creation Club, including quests, dungeons, bosses, weapons, spells, and more. With Creations, there is a lot more to discover.
  • Dragonborn – With this official add-on for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, journey off the coast of Morrowind, to the island of Solstheim. Encounter new towns, dungeons, and quests, as you traverse the ash wastes and glacial valleys of this new land. Become more powerful with shouts that bend the will of your enemies and even tame dragons. Your fate, and the fate of Solstheim, hangs in the balance as you face off against your deadliest adversary—the first Dragonborn.
  • Dawnguard – The Vampire Lord Harkon has returned to power. By using the Elder Scrolls, he seeks to do the unthinkable—to end the sun itself. Will you join the ancient order of the Dawnguard and stop him? Or will you become a Vampire Lord? In Dawnguard, the ultimate choice will be yours.
  • Hearthfire – With this official add-on to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you can purchase land and build your own home from the ground up – from a simple one-room cottage to a sprawling compound complete with an armory, alchemy laboratory, stable, garden, and more. Use all-new tools like the drafting table and carpenter’s workbench to transform quarried stone, clay, and sawn logs into structures and furnishings. Even transform your house into a home by adopting children.

You can read more details on the game here.

This makes me happier than it realistically should. I should be bored of this game, but noooooope! Here we are, round three! Let's do this!

I am still a bit confused. Can you upgrade Special edition to Anniversary edition, for free, or do you pay? If so, how much?

  • +1
Zippy6 AkimboCurly (on 20 August 2021)

Special edition is getting a free upgrade to next-gen version, and also getting fishing, survival mode and Saints and Seducers content for free.

Anniversary edition is a paid upgrade that adds 500 items of content from the creator club. Pricing hasn't been announced yet.

There's no point releasing this year because most gamers cant find an xbox for sale. They will release it when there's a bigger xbox base.

Just when I was thinking they weren't going to port it to the Series X and PS5...

victor83fernandes SecondWar (on 22 August 2021)

A lot of games will be ported, its easy money.
With that said I'm happy with that, no one is forced to upgrade but options are great to have.

They'll do this again in 10 years.

They'll likely do this again in 5 years, 10 is too long for them to wait.

So wait, is it coming with 500+ mods for you to choose from, or is it just "hey, we've still got creation club, come on over!"?. They make that part so confusing, because PC and last gen consoles had access to creation club afaik, so this wouldn't make any difference to advertise it as some big bonus, not unless the mods are pre-installed.

It's free upgrade because SKYRIM will be 10 years old. What's there to complain about?

  • 0
G2ThaUNiT Ashadelo (on 19 August 2021)

Actually it was corrected that it will not be free lol

How much for the upgrade?

Darn. I hate it when they don't tell us how much it costs. I hope it's not TOO much because I already bought all the creation club stuff on PS4 and while I'd be happy paying a bulk 25 bucks for the new content, I'd hade to either have to re-buy everything on PS5 or buy all the stuff that's not on PS4 (I think the PS4 version of Creation club only has like half of what's on Xbox)

victor83fernandes Runa216 (on 22 August 2021)

Of course its better to not tell us the cost, this way, they can research the market, see what people think and how much would they pay. Always a smart business move.

Announcing that they hired some people to finally fix the many game breaking bugs still present 10 years after is what I was expecting... I can't care less about even more useless payable stuffs in the creation club.

Pemalite (on 19 August 2021)

Is this a joke? It's not April is it?

Just a graphics update?

Why not Overhaul Morrowind, Oblivion and package them all together and do something different?

  • -3
Zippy6 Pemalite (on 20 August 2021)

Don't understand what you're saying. They're doing a free next-gen update and an anniversary edition that comes with some creation club content. It's a very small project and of course there will be people who are glad to get a PS5/XSX version of Skyrim. "Why not do a multi-year project instead?"

This is like Insomniac releasing the next-gen update for Ratchet & Clank (2016) and someone saying "Ugh, why don't you remake the first 3 games from scratch instead?"

  • +3
Runa216 Pemalite (on 20 August 2021)

Because those require a whole lot more work for many reasons.

  • +1
Pemalite Runa216 (on 20 August 2021)

They don't need to do hardly any work.

There are native x86 versions of Oblivion and Morrowind, they don't need to remaster them, just bring PC-quality settings and 4k to consoles.

  • -2
Runa216 Pemalite (on 20 August 2021)

Right, I forgot about PC. Yeah, waht's up with what? I'd LOVE to try Oblivion and Morrowind again!

  • -1
victor83fernandes Runa216 (on 22 August 2021)

Just get them from the store, these get constant sales, and are in 4K native and look great for its age.
I'm sure you have an xbox if you love bethesda games.

  • 0
victor83fernandes Pemalite (on 22 August 2021)

Its already in 4K on consoles, do you google?

  • +1
victor83fernandes Pemalite (on 22 August 2021)

Some people are never happy. You get a great game updated for next gen for free, and you're complaining. If this was Nintendo you'd have to buy a new version and pay full price for it.
Oh and in case you dont know, those games are already in 4k native on xbox, and if you're than interested in Bethesda games then I'm sure you already have an xbox.

Fallout 3 is in 4K native and looks great on xbox, morrowind is also 4K but is just too old, it would need a full remake, far too outdated compared to todays open world games.
Fable 2 and 3 are also in native 4K on xbox.
Halo is also xbox enhanced, not sure if 3 and reach are 4k but I think it is.
The games that really needs 4K is Alan wake and max payne 3, those look way better on PC due to resolution eliminating jaggies.

Mr Puggsly trunkswd (on 22 August 2021)

That's a completely different job. Sounds like this is mostly a next gen patch.

  • 0
victor83fernandes trunkswd (on 22 August 2021)

There's already an oblivion remaster, on xbox its 4k native.
Just be happy this is releasing on PS, because Microsoft owns bethesda now, so PS gamers should just take what they can. I assume you dont have an xbox as you asked for an Oblivion remaster.

victor83fernandes shikamaru317 (on 23 August 2021)

That would be nice, but would not be free that's for sure. I honestly am happy with just 4K resolution on old games, its enough to smooth the jagged edges.
