Returnal Dev on Adding Save Options: 'Nothing to Announce Now' - News

Developer Housemarque released the third-person roguelike shooter, Returnal, last week. Players have been enjoying the game, however, one feature missing is the ability to save the game in the middle of the run. When you exit the game, it will start a new game whenever you reopen it.

The developer has responded to a Reddit post on Twitter saying that they hear what fans are saying. However, they have nothing to announce at this time.

"We hear the community and we love you all. Nothing to announce now, but keep playing and enjoying the challenge as you can!" said Housemarque.

Returnal is available now as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

I've never played a roguelike, but from what I've seen, not having saves is pretty normal for the genre. It seems like it's mainly indie games that tackle the genre like Hades and Dead Cells, so that's most likely why there's more pushback on not having common features like saves now that a roguelike is reaching a much wider audience since Returnal is being advertised as a next-gen, AAA, $70, PS5 exclusive game published by Sony, and not a niche indie title.

The game looks like a great time, though! Extremely tough but very rewarding when you master it, and I believe the game should be experienced the way the developers intended for it to be experienced.

Would be a nice feature to add ... An oversight from Housemarque in my opinion but amazing game regardless.
