Sony Patents AI That Will Play Your Games For You - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 01 May 2021 / 2,133 ViewsSony has patented a new concept that will allow an AI to study someone's playstyle and take over playing a game for them. The patent application goes into details on how it will work and describes the application as an "automated artificial intelligence control mode for playing specific tasks during gaming applications."
The method used according to the patent involves assigning a default profile to the user, which starts with a generic set of behaviors. As the player continues to play a game, the AI will study the play style and over time learn to make similar decisions to the player.
The idea is that eventually the AI could take over and play through difficult sections on the player's behalf. "If the AI character has completed specific tasks, those tasks can be identified as being completed by the user with assistance from the AI game controller," reads the patent.
Another example provided is that if you are playing co-op or multiplayer with a friend, the AI can take over if one player has to stop playing the game. The player will be able to set the AI to play in "automatic mode" so the game can continue to be played.

Remember Nintendo's Super Guide? Some people made a big deal about it back when it was announced in 2009. Then it was only used in maybe 4 games, and unless you count the Switch version of NSMBU, hasn't been seen in a decade.
The term ‘handholding’ gets a new meaning.
Cinematic....
If it can do all the impossible trophies for me that'd be great lol. I personally dont mind nor care for this since there are already people that just watch people play the entire game via twitch and youtube anyways. However if this AI matches your skills, and say you keep dying from this hard boss battle, wouldn't the AI just be doing the same and dying as well since it learned how sucky you are? lol
I would say that the AI would be using the same patterns you used against the boss and if it wasn't viable overcoming the boss. Chances are no, it won't beat the boss. Maybe after a dozen times if you keep dying when the boss is a sliver away from death perhaps.
I think this is more or less for things that you've already done and just mopping up in a game. Which I think it's a fantastic idea. This isn't the same as botting on PC. Think of it like you are programing this AI as you play the game.
Never bad to have more options.
Word on the street is that it was a feature required by journalists.
An Asterisk should also be put next to any earned trophies using the AI.
Well if the AI will learn and play similar to the player how will it pass the hard parts in behalf of the player? And well have the AI playing for yourself doesn`t make much sense, at most would use for griding.
nah grinding means u actually did it,
leaving it to an a.i halves ur trophy/achievement accomplishments haha!
i fcking co-op'ed 400 times in code vein just to get one gaddamn trophy and get that platinum!
what da fock? spectator mode!?
well we did have b-spec mode in gran turismo where u can let the a.i drive for u if its an endurance race hahaha!
Perhaps it's in unpopular opinion but I think this is fantastic. You know, for big grindy moments in games and you gotta take a break or just plowing through a part of the game for a trophy and you lose motivation to play. I think there is some potential here that many hardcore gamers are going to take advantage of. This system doesn't seem like it's meant to take over your games, but rather a push and a nudge. I know a lot of gamers who are busy with work any other life things that want to play but can't be bothered with many games these days because of time commitment. A feature like this will straight up bring back some of my friends who can actually game and keep up with a big grind.
Thank G-d, now I will finish my backlog. Its great for the games that you hate but wanna see the end of.
Youtube?
So like a drivatar but at the system level? that's pretty cool i guess
Its a cool idea however this could affect the trophy system taking away the accomplishment of unlocking and earning trophys.
