Horizon Forbidden West Targeting 'Late 2021' Release

Horizon Forbidden West Targeting 'Late 2021' Release - News

Horizon Forbidden West is one of, if not the most anticipated release for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 this year, now that Gran Turismo 7 has been delayed to 2022.

Sony is running a new ad on Instagram that says Horizon Forbidden West will release in "late 2021," while another clip in a video uploaded by IGN says the game will launch in the "second half of 2021." The Instagram ad was spotted by VideoGamesChronicle, which also uploaded an image of said ad.

Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan has previously said he feels good about  Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Returnal launching in 2021.

"Yeah, we’re feeling pretty good about ReturnalRatchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Horizon Forbidden West, said Ryan. "And, you know, there are two approaches to this: you can either hold the date and put out the game irrespective of quality or you can ship it when it’s right. We have always taken the latter approach. There have been some fairly high-profile instances of publishers trying the former approach.

"It never works at the best of times. But I think in this world, where creative people are working remotely, you’ve just got to respect the fact that that development needs to take what it needs to take and to get the games right."

God of War was originally announced for a 2021 release, however, director Cory Balrog via Twitter said the game will release when it is done. This suggests there is a decent chance it will miss its 2021 release window and be delayed to 2022 or possibly even later.

Yeah. It would be nice if it stays on track. Ryan's comments just seem a little wishy-washy to me. Almost seems like a coin toss this many months from "late 2021".

Saying a game shouldn't be rushed out is strange to say at this point. I mean I agree. But saying that doesn't instill much confidence.

That the comment was made a fair while ago and was about Sony's game release philosophy rather than any specific game release needs to be taken into account.

Oh ok. It wasn't clear when the comments were made. I assumed they were this year and specifically referring to these games.

I'm guessing at least a year after launch is when most PS games would get ported to PC.

Based on past releases. Like I said, I'm guessing. Could be 2 years past launch. Either way, more PS games will be coming to PC.

Who knows you may or may not be right like you said it's a guess , if we were talking about a single game, based off the past releases it would be around the PS6 launch , but being a sequel should certainly change that, unless they were just doing a end of gen PC cash grab with certain IP while they still looked good enough and had run there race on PS4, or are hoping to lure PC gamers to PS5.

I don't think it's a sound strat to just mooch off PC at the end of each gen, esp when you've got MS selling all year round to PC and making bank off it.

MS's strat at the end of the day will make them more bank than a meagre end of gen sales for up to a year or two from PC, for Sony's strat.

We can see them starting the ramp up of releases, but I just doubt it's restricted to only end of gen releases. That just doesn't make good business sense for the long-term.

I think they used the end of the gen to dip their toes in the water with the knowledge that it was just a test case for PS5, and most likely from reading the tea leaves I would assume that unless it didn't meet expectations, the only decisions left are timing between platform releases and what games.
