Nintendo announced during the latest Nintendo Direct Splatoon 3 for the Nintendo Switch. It will launch in 2022.

Splatoon 3 arrives on Nintendo Switch in 2022! In the wake of chaos, enter the sun scorched Splatlands and the new city, Splatsville, inhabited by battle-hardened Inklings and Octolings. New weapons, moves, and more await, so be sure to keep an eye out for updates in the future.

Everytime they announce a new splatoon (which has only happened twice I guess), I feel like it's too soon.

Two years between the first and second. Kind of close there. And I still felt that way for this one even though it will be 5 years apart.

But who am I kidding? When it comes out, I'll spend hundreds of hours with splatoon 3 just like 1 and 2...

But I wish they didn't announce it so soon. I rather like the announcement followed by release. They seem pretty deep into development. I think splatoon is finally moving into the top tier of the franchises for Nintendo. The sales have been good so far. But this one seems to be getting that extra coat of shine that the marios, zeldas, animal crossings, and karts get.

They announced early so it can have its own spotlight. And they will do multiple testfire demos to make everyone hyped up and test their servers.

I really thought this one would be for Switch 2, but I sure ain't complaining. Hope the campaign is as good as the first two games, or better.

I thought maybe a spin-off or something before a numbered sequel. Then 3 for the switch 2. But nope. I'm thinking the switch is in it for the long haul now. Switch 2 in 2025. Splatoon 4 in 2026.
