Take-Two SEC Filing Hints at Possible Grand Theft Auto VI Release in 2023 - News

Take-Two might be looking at a release for Grand Theft Auto VI in 2023, a full 10 years after the release of Grand Theft Auto V. This is according to investment firm Stephens analyst Jeff Cohens who noticed Take-Two's 10-K SEC filing shows the company expects to spend $89 million on marketing in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024. This is more than double the spending of the previous year.
"We are not sure how much we should be reading into this shift, but we would note that this disclosure accurately predicted the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 prior to that game’s announcement," said Cohens.
"[Take-Two management] has spoken very confidently about the pipeline over the next five years and existing live services execution has been excellent. However, the timing of the next Grand Theft Auto remains top-of-mind for investors, particularly with the stock near all-time-highs."
If Cohens is right, Grand Theft Auto VI will launch between April 2023 and March 2024. Looking at the previous release in the series, Grand Theft Auto V, it is likely Grand Theft Auto VI would release in Holiday 2023. Grand Theft Auto V originally released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and for Windows PC in April 2015.
A release in Holiday 2023 would give the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 three years to grow their install base before a possible release of Grand Theft Auto VI.
