Sony Patents New DualShock 4 Controller With New Buttons - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 20 June 2016 / 11,722 ViewsSony has patented a new PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 controller that has some changes over the current controller.
The patent shows the new controller features two new buttons on the underside of the controller. This is similar to the four paddles that are on the Xbox One Elite controller. The Start and Share buttons have been moved below the D-Pad on the left and the button on the right.

The new controller could be for the upgraded PlayStation 4, codenamed Neo, which according to reports will launch later this year.
The patent also shows an image of another DualShock 4 controller that moves the analogue sticks to the top of the controller and moves the D-Pad and main buttons down.

Thanks NeoGAF.

Both look good. The current PS4 controller is one of the best console controllers ever.
Needs a screen
Also there is new FCC documentation out that proves a new DualShock 4 is coming. It must be an elite DS4 that will ship with the NEO. Makes sense, elite PS4 will come with elite DS4.
Some games could certainly use an extra 2 buttons. Moving the share and options buttons obviously allow for a bigger touch pad or even a touch screen. But I assume 22 is still just a touch pad. No point in causing any fragmentation of the controller market by introducing a touch screen to an "elite" controller this late in the piece. A touch screen would be an accessory almost no developer would use.
i'm ok whit the left analog - D-pad swap, but i realy don't like the right analog. - buttons swap, that will not work.
Alson, i'm ok whit share-options relocation.
As the first image shows the analog sticks in the usual place perhaps they are moveable, there was a controller that did this, let you put dpad buttons and analog in different slots... can't remember what it was. Or it's just an alternate design, either way I don't think it's likely they'll use it flat out.
Except it's more ergonomic for shooters to have both up top. Realistica
I'm fine with the DS4, the way it is. Not sure what they could add to make it better.
Loving the ability to change the stick to where the dpad currently is, I always much rathered the GC/X360 position of the main stick.
That said, I think the Share/Options button placement on this is terrible. Just saying William btw! There is no Start button on the PS4 controller my man! It's we get options... one of the options is to start but still, no actual start button :)
