Beyond Eyes

BeyondEyes 2

Release Date(s): 2015

Publisher: Team17

Developer: Tiger & Squid

Platforms: PC, PS4 & Xbox One

I can't give enough praise to this lovely and unique gaming experience. In Beyond Eyes you play as a blind girl that is trying to find her pet cat, and it’s through the girl's other senses that you gradually come to see and explore the beautifully presented world. You can read my more detailed preview for the game here.

Tembo the Badass Elephant

Release Date(s): Summer 2015

Publisher: Sega

Developer: Game Freak

Platforms: PC, PS4 & Xbox One

Game Freak has managed to make a platformer that feels as good to play as it looks. Tembo the Badass Elephant centres around an elephant that could easily be a Rambo stand-in. The titular elephant must take on the phantom army, using his unique physique to conquer all challenges before him.

Being an elephant, Tembo has the ability to glide slightly (crazy, I know), blow water out of his nose to grow certain plants, and use his enormous size and weight to smash anything in his path. The game combines lovely 2D sprites with occasional 3D models to make for an extremely destructive environment. With a release date set for this summer, it won't be long until we can all get our hands on this new and intriguing game from the Pokemon masters.

Not a Hero

Release Date(s): May 7th, 2015

Publisher: Devolver Digital

Developer: Roll7

Platforms: PC & Mac. PS4 & PS Vita versions also in the works

The ultra-stylish Roll7 team (OlliOlli series) are back with a brand new 2D platformer series, this time one with shooting mechanics. You can read my full preview here, but suffice it to say that Not a Hero is looking to be one of the most stylish games of the year.

Volume

Release Date(s): 2015

Publisher: N/A

Developer: Mike Bithell

Platforms: PC & PS4

Mike Bithell's second major video game project will be released sometime this year, and although Volume has been subject to delays, the voice acting and attention to detail on show make it look just as polished as Bithell's previous outing, Thomas Was Alone.

The demo that was playable at EGX walked me through the basics of hiding behind walls from the AI, and allowed me to use a handful of tools to bypass the guards. The most notable of these was the Whistler, which allows the player to throw a sound into the distance, causing enemies to leave their positions temporarily as they investigate the noise.

Volume looks set to be a hit for gamers that loved the classic VR missions in Metal Gear Solid
