Overview

Hardware sales are down slightly week on week, mainly due to the decrease in 3DS as people wait for the price cut on August 11. Year on year hardware sales are a different story as every platform is down by at least a 25 percent. Total software sales are flat week on week and are down 25 percent compared to the same week a year ago. There are two debuts in the top 40 and there are no software milestones this week. No games sold over 100,000, down from two last week, and the top 13 sold over 50,000, up from 10 last week.

Worldwide Hardware

Hardware

Week on week sales are up for the Xbox 360 and PSP and down for the PlayStation 3, Wii, DS and 3DS. The PlayStation 3 sold the most hardware this week with 137,000 units sold, a decrease of just 1,000 (-1%). The Xbox 360 sold 119,000 units this week, which is up 3,000 (3%) compared to last week. The DS is the bestselling handheld with sales of 119,000 units; this is a decrease of 3,000 (-2%). The Wii falls below the Xbox 360 and DS this week, with sales of 114,000, down 2,000 (-2%) compared to last week. The PSP sold 96,000 units, up 10,000 (12%) compared to last week. The 3DS in last place sold 52,000 sold, a decrease of 20,000 (-28%). Total week on week sales decreased 13,000 (-2%) to 637,000 units.

Year on year sales are down for every platform, ranging from down 38,000 units all the way up to 169,000 units. The PlayStation 3 is down 56,000 (-29%), the Wii is down 38,000 (-25%), and the Xbox 360 is down 83,000 (-41%). The PSP is down 45,000 (-32%) and the DS is down 169,000 (-59%).

Hardware Home Consoles

The PlayStation 3 has been in sole position of first for the last four weeks and been ahead of the Xbox 360 for seven weeks now. The Wii falls slightly below the Xbox 360 for the second time in three weeks. Compared with ten weeks ago PlayStation 3 sales are up, and Wii and Xbox 360 sales are down.

Hardware Handhelds

The gap between the DS and PSP shrinks, though the DS keeps a decent lead. 3DS sales fall for a second week, since the announcement of the price which isn’t until August 11. Compared with ten weeks ago DS and PSP sales are up and 3DS sales are down.

Worldwide Software

Two games debuted in the top 40 this week, down from six last week. Queen’s Gate: Spiral Chaos (PSP) is this week’s top debut as it debuted at number eight with sales of 67,000. The game launched in Japan, with no plans to be released elsewhere.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 (DS) debuted at number nine with sales of 63,000. The game launched in Japan, with no plans to be released elsewhere.

Other games in the top 10 that are not debuts include Catherine (PS3) at number one with sales of 99,000. Rhythm Heaven (Wii) is at number two with sales of 84,000. Wii Sports Resort is at number three with sales of 82,000. Mario Kart Wii is at number four with sales of 79,000.  Zumba Fitness (Wii) is at number five with sales of 79,000.

NCAA Football 12 (X360) at number six with sales of 77,000. Pokémon Black / White Version (DS) is at number seven with sales of 74,000. NCAA Football 12 (PS3) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 57,000.

Software

Week on week software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and DS, flat for the PSP, and are down for the Wii and 3DS. The Wii takes the top spot this week with 1.35 million games sold, a decrease of 21,000 (-2%). The PlayStation 3 sold 1.18 million games, an increase of 11,000 (1%). Xbox 360 software sales is up to 1.13 million games sold, an increase of 13,000 (1%). The DS sold 821,000 games, an increase of 9,000 (1%). PSP game sales are flat compared to last week, 377,000 games sold. The 3DS sold 163,000 games, a decrease of 14,000 (-8%). Total combined software is down week on week to 5.02 million games sold a decrease of just 2,000 (-0%).

Year on year software totals are down across the board. The PlayStation 3 is down 287,000 (-20%), the Wii is down 570,000 (-30%) and the Xbox 360 is down 42,000 (-4%). The DS is down 786,000 (-49%) and the PSP is down 367,000 (-49%). Total combined software is down 1.89 million (-27%) games sold year on year.

Software Home Consoles

Wii software sales are at the top for a second straight week, and for the seventh time in ten weeks. PlayStation 3 software sales are in second for a second straight week and Xbox 360 software sales are in third for a sixth straight week. Compared to ten weeks ago PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 software sales are down.

Software Handhelds

3DS software sales drop for a fifth straight week and are in third for a fourth straight week. PSP software sales have been relatively flat for the last three weeks, after taking a dip the week of July 9. DS software remains well ahead of the PSP as it outsold the PSP by a margin of slightly more than 2:1. Compared with ten weeks ago the PSP is up and the DS and 3DS are down.

Your information is wrong. You say Devil Survivor 2 released with no plan to release outside Japan, but Atlus already announced since last June. I tried to post the url to the announcement, but your webpage doesn't seem to like links.
