Why Naughty Dog Are Not Making Uncharted for NGP - News

by Nicholas Taylor , posted on 09 February 2011 / 4,600 Views

As you are probably aware, there's an Uncharted game set to be released for Sony's new portable NGP, but how come Naughty Dog themselves aren't developing it? Naughty Dog community boss Arne Meyer has the answers.

Speaking at the Playstation Experience press event in London last week, where Naughty Dog were showing off Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception for PS3, Meyer said that they were happy to hand over the reins to Sony Bend. As for the reason they're handing it over, he said “We’re a one game studio so it would be very challenging for us,”

“I know a long time ago we had looked at trying to do that as well, but it’s really about what makes sense for the universe and for the franchise as well.”

He added that “Sony Bend’s a great studio, we have a great relationship with them, so it’s really exciting to see a new platform and see what they can do with it given all of the new control options they’ve got as well.”

While the new NGP Uncharted game doesn't have a release date, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception will be out on November 1st in North America.

They will be awesome. I'm sure they are working cooperatively anyway, Sony's in house devs work well together.

I'm not surprised. A different team made God of War for the PSP than the ones of the main trilogy for PS2/3.

nd cares more about quality than sales for example : call of duty halo and gt
they know that if they make the next 2 games as good or almost as good as uc2 it gonna hvet to be competing with the games i listed above

I didnt think ND would be making the portable version anyway since theyre gonna be working on Uncharted Racing after U3 ;)

On a side note Square Enix could learn a lesson from ND about making ONE GAME at a time!! -_-

that's cool.
ND need to concentrate on Uncharted 3, game of the year already to me.
Uncharted 2, the best game i play this gen.
i'll wait to see if Uncharted 3 will be better than Uncharted 2 or not, but i am excite for Uncharted 3.

Uncharted on NGP will be great too, Sony Bend won't disappoint.
look at God of War Ghost of Sparta, a great game on the PSP and make by a Sony Bend studio too.

I thought Naughty Dog wouldn't know anything about this game based on the comment saying they don't know anything about PSP2 other then rumors they've heard when they were asked about it in last December

I think it's pretty obvious they they could only make one game... When I 1st heard of the portable title, I didn't even think Naughty Dog wold be behind it.

I'm trusting Sony Bend does a great job with a portable Uncharted, they did nicely with Resistance: Retribution.

Good thing. Naughty dog should focus only on ps3.

good luck to them because most people who took on naughty dogs franchises have given sub par performances so they need it all.
