It sounds like someone from Nokia made up the name.

Also is it just me or when i heard 'Series X' just gives me the impression that they'll make other models I should be waiting for? Maybe Series Y or Series Z will look better?

Apparently you can sit it on it's side, but even then it's still about 12cm high which is probably too tall for a lot of units.

I can't imagine 12cm is too tall for many entertainment centers. If yours is that right, you shouldn't put gaming systems in there without some sort of forced air cooling system.

I actually worked out the rough dimensions based on disc drive/gamepad as scale and it works out at about 14.7-15cm, compared to the 6.4cm of the XBO S and the 7.9cm of the OG XBO. So It's taller than two XBO S's stacked ontop of each other. TV Units come in a wide variety of sizes so I'm sure many will accommodate it, while some will not. I don't currently have an entertainment centre, so I'd be fine regardless.

I'd say use it as furniture, but the exhaust is on the top so you'd overheat the system. Which sucks because it won't fit into other furniture so it really just screams to be used as furniture. Maybe just keep it turned off and use it as an expensive stand for your PS5.

The new controller also sports a new "share" button. lol

I didn't even notice that lol it looks like it's also got a new D-pad. Otherwise it appears identical to me.

Why are their code names always better than the final retail names?

X series? I instantly thought of porn. They should change that name.

I just wondered if they could possibly find a more terrible name than "Xbox One"... Now I have my answer....

deskpro2k3 (on 13 December 2019)

Xbox "Series" X emphasizing that there will be different versions. It looks like a fridge.

Chazore (on 13 December 2019)

This is quite literally a SFF box

VAMatt (on 13 December 2019)

The look is great. The name.... Since they're calling it a series, it follows that there will be separate names for each entry in the series. They might just be numbers or letters, but there has to be a way to distinguish within the series.

I'm imagining it'll be series X and series S, and this is Microsoft's way of transitioning us away from the concept of console generations and we'll see "Series X 2.0" and "Series S 2.0" as what will initially look like a mid-gen upgrade, but then will be followed with 3.0, 4.0, so on, with none of them seeming like a next gen upgrade, thus doing away with gens all together for Xbox. Sony probably won't follow along, Nintendo definitely won't, and the console gen will persist as a concept, with multiple Series X and S versions being regarded as belonging to a certain generation.

I could see that.

I actually like the design assuming I don't have to stand it up. Its so much like a PC now they had to shape it like one. They should have called it the Gamerectangle and put a handle on it.

PAOerfulone (on 12 December 2019)

That looks like a bootleg PC box. And the name. Yikes.
Well, if it's got the games, than that's all that matters... But this is not a very good start.

LivingMetal (on 13 December 2019)

"Series, turn on Xbox."

  • +2
Slownenberg (on 13 December 2019)

Possibly bad design as I imagine it will be hard to fit in some people's entertainment areas. But the real news is that awful name oh my god. They go from Xbox One X to Xbox Series X?? Talk about confusing! Literally probably the worst thing anyone could have possibly come up with. If this is the creativity of Microsoft's Xbox division I expect another failed generation for them.

I like the design.

Azzanation (on 12 December 2019)

I like the design, good to see they are going with something different and that looks really clean. I wonder if you can lay it down, I don't think you can due to the vent on top.

JWeinCom Azzanation (on 13 December 2019)

Eh... when it comes to my console, looking different comes at a very distant second after fitting where I need to go. It's not like I'm going to choose a console based solely on that, but if it's otherwise a tie between this and the PS5 and the PS5 fits under my TV, then that's what I'll be buying.

  • -1
SuperNintend0rk Azzanation (on 13 December 2019)

They confirmed that you can put it vertically or horizontally. You'd just need to make sure the vents aren't blocked.

This just screams "get a PC already". What function does an Xbox serve anymore?
