Nintendo has officially released the Nintendo Switch Lite for $199.99. The handheld only version of the Switch is available in Turquoise, Gray and Yellow colors.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening has also been released alongside the Nintendo Switch Lite.

"The introduction of Nintendo Switch Lite gives people the choice of a Nintendo Switch system that best fits their needs and personal play style," said Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "With the simultaneous launch of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, today is a great day for newcomers and existing Nintendo Switch owners alike."

And now devs don't have to make games for two different ecosystems since it's the same architecture.

It's a cool little package but considering how much lower than the RRP you can get the "proper" Switch for I think you give up too much to make this an attractive purchase.

reports from a lot of websites are gushing over this thing being "the greatest handheld ever made" and other various comments absolutely loving the feel of it, I think giving up rumble and the ability to play 1-2 Switch isn't too great a cost if you are just interested in the machine as a handheld system exclusively anyway.

Considering roughly 30% of the current user base already use it exclusively as a handheld I think there should be a big market for this.

And the ability to dock it, and the ability for table top mode, and the ability to play anything with motion controls such as Arms or Mario Party and the smaller screen are also negatives IMO. I get that it's a dedicated handheld that's well made and has a D Pad etc but here in Australia I can get "proper" Switch for $399 ($270USD) and a Lite is $329 ($222USD) so the saving is small....
