Head of Xbox Phil Spencer Email to Employees About Google Stadia Leaked - News

Google recently announced its new game streaming service, Stadia, and head of Xbox Phil Spencer in an email to employees, which has been leaked online, discussed his thoughts on it.

Microsoft will also be entering the game streaming service market with its xCloud, which will have public trials later this year.

Read the email from Phil Spencer to employees below:

We just wrapped up watching the Google announcement of Stadia as team here at GDC. Their announcement is validation of the path we embarked on two years ago..

Today we saw a big tech competitor enter the gaming market, and frame the necessary ingredients for success as Content, Community and Cloud. There were no big surprises in their announcement although I was impressed by their leveraging of YouTube, the use of Google Assistant and the new WiFi controller.

But I want get back to us, there has been really good work to get us to the position where we are poised to compete for 2 billion gamers across the planet. Google went big today and we have a couple of months until E3 when we will go big.

We have to stay agile and continue to build with our customer at the center. We have the content, community, cloud team and strategy, and as I’ve been saying for a while, it’s all about execution. This is even more true today.

Energizing times.

Phil

I'd take this kind of leaks with a pinch of salt, this sounds more like a PR move than actual leaked info. Still, good for Microsoft to basically just go "bring it on", competition is always healthy.

I was thinking the same exact thing.

Certainly, every executive in the gaming industry, and nearly every industry for that matter, knows that these kinds of things will be "leaked". So, you're probably at least partially correct that it's a PR move.

Regardless of that, I agree with you good to hear Microsoft acknowledge the healthy competition, and echo my thoughts that these are great times to be a gamer.

Lol leaked email, even if that was “leaked” it was written, rewritten, reviewed, rephrased by probably 100 marketers at Microsoft lmao.

"rephrased by probably 100 marketers"

That sounds very inefficient.

I've never been a huge fan of Microsoft, but I'm actually pretty excited to see what they're bringing to E3 this year. In fact I don't think I've ever been this excited to see their conference.

I have no interest in streaming game machines. I'll stick with discs.

The edge Google has is the games are running on much better specs.

However, MS has a huge edge if you can stream any Xbox game. Meanwhile Sony needs to open up their catalogue for streaming.

After that other MS higher up came with the over 1B sold HW now we have Phil taking a dispute for 2B customers... well let's see how close they will get on this marketshare.

I mean... Are these emails held confidentially? Not exactly publicly released but it's not like they'd be hard to come by.

His a smart man, he knows what he writes in an email is surely to be leaked to the public. So why not make it sound good in the meantime.
