Obsidian Entertainment co-director's Leonard Boyarsku and Tim Cain in an interview with GameInformer announced the upcoming RPG, The Outer Worlds, will take between 15 and 40 hours to complete. The size of the game would be similar to or "maybe a little bit smaller" than Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2.

The Outer Worlds will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC in 2019.

Hopefully closer to the latter 40 hour number, unless they plan to release it for less than $60.

I mean, we just got RE2R which was a 10H-20H experience (if you do multiple playthroughs) and people happily bought it at 60 bucks. The production value was pretty great too. Numbers of hours to complete solely to judge the value of a game is overrated.

Yeah, but that's not an RPG like The Outer Wilds. RPG's are typically noted for their length, most AAA RPG's are at least 40 hours, some alot more than that. It is not uncommon to see 100+ hour AAA western RPG's these days.

Gotta do some exploring and side quest if you hope to attain those numbers usually and sometimes it's best to not overstay your welcome when it gets too long and repetitive.
Also, since it seems decison making will be part of the game, it might not be too farfetched to think you'd be encouraged to do more than one playthrough.

That begs the question, is he referring to just the main story completion time, or is he referring to the main story + all side missions completion time? The range he gives is so huge, 15 to 40 hours, you'd think they'd be able to give a smaller window than that already since it releases this year. Maybe he meant 15 hours for a straight main story run and 40 for a run where you do all side content? I'd be happy with 40 hours main + side personally.

Isn't it usually that ? I mean, some dev do give timeframe for the story completion and story + side quests. I do think that's what they meant by that.

If you guys want long games that don't respect your time, always stick with Japanese games.
