Welcome to VGChartz’s Top 5 Kickstarter Games: September 2015 Edition. Before we begin, take a few minutes to look at some of the great Kickstarter games below that didn’t quite make the list.

Banner

12 is Better Than 6: "Explore the dangers of Wild West in hand-drawn Top-down shooter." (Windows, Mac and Linux)

De Mambo: "De Mambo is a fast paced, single-screen action platformer that is kinda Smash Bros, sorta Breakout and nothing like either of these since it has it’s own swing." (Windows, Mac, Linux, PS4, Vita and PS3)

Overfall: "A fantasy roleplaying game of rough diplomacy and tough action. Explore, negotiate, and fight your way across the high seas!" (Windows, Mac and Linux)

Battle Chasers: Nightwar

BCN Banner

Developer: Airship Syndicate

Total Amount/Goal: $566,000/$500,000

Days Left: 27

Lowest Amount for Game: $27/$30

Release Date: Late 2016/Early 2017

Next Stretch Goal: Spanish, French, Italian and German language support ($575K)

Platforms: Windows, Mac, PS4, and Xbox One

While Kickstarter has given life to countless space simulators and Metroidvanias, the crowd-funding site has been lacking in the non-retro JRPG department. Joe Madureria and Airship Syndicate are hoping to change that with their JRPG Battle Chasers: Nightwar. The game will act as a continuation of Joe Madureria’s comic series, Battle Chasers (which has been on hiatus since 2001). Like the comic, the game follows Gully and her band of adventurers as they proceed into the Grey Line to uncover what lies behind that fog wall. Battle Chasers: Nightwar will also include 2D cut scenes for important moments throughout your adventure.

Gameplay

The game's overworld includes hidden dungeons, uncommon bosses, and of course random battle encounters. As for how it plays, the game has you using three characters per team in turn-based combat. There are no regular attacks in the game, instead you will use either your main mana pool (blue) or your secondary mana pool (red) to perform moves. Each character reacts differently depending on which pool is used, so knowing your character traits is key to success. An interesting thing to note is that each time you return to a dungeon after surviving it the dungeon can be randomized. Rooms, enemies, the layout, and more all will be different each time you enter. Finally, thanks to Nordic Games, those who back the game on Kickstarter will get a Kickstarter exclusive Darksiders sword.

OmniBus

 Omnibus Banner

Developer: Amir Badri

Total Amount/Goal: $7,000/$5,000

Days Left: 7

Lowest Amount for Game: $5

Release Date: Early 2016

Next Stretch Goal: Bus Customization ($8K)

Platforms: Windows, Mac, and Linux

OmniBus puts you behind the wheel of a bus. Simple enough, you might think. The problem is the brakes aren’t working (Speed, anyone?). Worse still, the speed of the bus slowly increases over time and your goal is to complete the stage's task before you flip over or get stuck in the water.

Gameplay

OmniBus will include three modes: Story Mode, Trick Mode, and Multiplayer. In Story Mode you will play through multiple worlds, where you will be given various missions to compete while on the lookout for secrets. In Trick Mode, you will be free to roam the map and destroy whatever you want while attempting sick bus tricks. Finally, local multiplayer pits you against up to three friends in a demolition derby. The game will also feature over 10 different kinds of bus, from the usual city bus to a double wagon bus.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

 D:OS2 Banner

Developer: Larian Studios LLC

Total Amount/Goal: $1,403,000/$500,000

Days Left: 17

Lowest Amount for Game: $26/$30

Release Date: Late 2016/Early 2017

Next Stretch Goal: The Hall of Echos ($1.5M)

Platforms: Windows

After the success of Divinity: Original Sin, the developers at Larian Studios have decided to give fans more of what they loved, and Divinity: Original Sin 2 was able to destroy the previous title's Kickstarter total within days so it was clearly a good decision. For the unaware, Divinity: Original Sin is a top-down RPG that was praised for its turn-based combat and beautiful world.

Gameplay

The sequel will allow you to pick your race, stats, and even the origin story for both your character and your three companions. These companions will become an essential part of the game, as they either cooperate or compete with you during quests. D:OS2 will feature a new dialogue system and some deep new combat mechanics, including elemental interactions, cover systems, and source skills.

tiny & Tall: Gleipnir

Tiny Banner

Developer: pins

Total Amount/Goal: €2,650/€8,000

Days Left: 25

Lowest Amount for Game: €10 (About $11)

Release Date: Early 2016

Next Stretch Goal: N/A

Platforms: Windows, Mac, and Linux

Truly this is the time to be alive if you're a point & click adventure fan. The genre's resurgence has given life to a handful of new gems. Now comic creator pins is hoping his upcoming Nordic-themed game, tiny & Tall: Gleipnir, will find its place in the community’s heart. The game will actually be based on the first book in the tiny & Tall series (pins’ own comic series) and follows two blacksmiths who have been tasked by the Norse Gods with recovering six ingredients. But it seems the Gods might have chosen badly, since these two can’t even get along, let alone cooperate on a dangerous adventure.

Gameplay

tiny & Tall: Gleipnir will include classic click & point genre gameplay, such as picking up objects, using objects, talking to characters, and so on, as well as an inventory system. The main selling points, as with most such games, are the characters and dialogue, and the game will feature plenty of gags to keep you entertained.

The Dwarves

Dwarves Banner

Developer: KING Art Games

Total Amount/Goal: $164,000/$260,000

Days Left: 26

Lowest Amount for Game: $25

Release Date: Summer 2016

Next Stretch Goal: Backers Choice ($335K)

Platforms: Windows, Mac, Linux, PS4, and Xbox One

Certain fantasy races tend to get the shaft when it comes to games. One in particular is the Dwarven race. These short but stout people are a rare breed in gaming, especially when compared to their elven counterparts which are seemingly everywhere. Enter KING Art Games to help redress this under-representation with its tactical-based RPG, The Dwarves.

Gameplay

The game will boast an epic story loaded with side-quests and numerous companions, and a special system Crowd Combat System, which calculates the amount of force each character is using. For example, if an enemy gets flung backwards towards his allies, they will in turn be pushed back based on his force. This system, along with RTS combat, allows you to control the flow of the battle even if you’re outnumbered.
