Best PC Game of 2014 - Article

PC gaming finds itself in an interesting position with the current generation well under way. The PS4 and Xbox One are effectively computers, built in much the same way as a low-end PC rig would be. As such, there's very little differentiating the three platforms on the face of it, although gamers can construct their own PCs to outperform both consoles. With multiplatform titles (and even previously console-exclusive titles) now finding their way to the PC in droves, and the standard deluge of PC exclusives, one could certainly argue that the PC was the only gaming machine you really needed this year. Here are the Best PC Games of 2014.

The Nominees Are:

Dark Souls II

...in which your ass gets kicked repeatedly.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

...in which you get to be awesome, whatever your sexual orientation is.

Far Cry 4

...in which you face a crazy man in the mountains, surely that can't go wrong!

Hearthstone: Heroes of WarCraft

...in which you play a card game, whilst not operating a motorcycle.

Civilization: Beyond Earth

...in which you play Civ V on another world

And the Winner is...

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft

Card games are serious business.

You've probably at least heard of some popular trading card games, such as Magic the GatheringPokemon, or Yu-Gi-Oh. But between the cost of acquiring cards and the time spent learning complex rules, many people decide not to scale the entry barrier. Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft does a great job of knocking that wall down, by offering a simpler, easy to understand ruleset and letting all prospective players enjoy the game free of charge. And yet those who want to invest more time into the game will find a deep, ever-evolving metagame and some heated battles with newfound rivals. Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft duels its way to the Best PC Game of 2014 Award.
