Welcome to the VGChartz Gap charts. The charts will be updated monthly and each article will focus on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation, as well as comparing the 8th generation consoles.

The chart comparing the two consoles will be added next month.

XOne Vs. Wii U Global:

Gap change in latest month: 1,099,376 – XOne

Gap change over last 12 months: n/a

Total Lead: 2,739,380 – Wii U

Xbox One Total Sales: 1,575,199

Wii U Total Sales: 4,314,579

In November the Xbox One hit store shelves. The gap between the Xbox One and Wii U has shrunk by a fair margin in just one month. The gap shrunk by 1,099,376 units and sits at 2,739,380 in the Wii U’s favor at the end of November. The gap is expected to shrink more in December, however by a smaller amount.

The Xbox One launched in North America and Europe on November 22. The Wii U launched in November 2012.

gap chart.... with no chart?

For some reason, I feel XBO will struggle to surpass WiiU. WiiU sales have gone up since Mario, and XBO weekly sales keep going down. They also fell harder after Black Friday then WiiU sales.

Well WiiU sales had nowhere to go but theres that

It's funny how this is thumbed down so much, I just don't expect XBO sales to explode, but I do think WiiU sales will gradually go up. WiiU has a lot of great exclusives releasing next year.

PS4 will pass WiiU in2014 yes, but I don't think XBO will sell anywhere nearly as well as PS4.

Wooooo. 2.7 million is easy peasy.

I get the felling that the Xbox One will have surpassed the Wii U by this time next year, between Titanfall and Halo 5. However, Nintendo has some potential system sellers as well, Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Super Smash Bros. Wii U, maybe those will prove to be bigger system sellers that SM3DW has so far. This year is going to be interesting, that's for sure.

this time next year?! are you out of your mind, x1 is on its way to pass wii u by the end of next month lol

I wish it were so, but that seems unlikely. Sales for the beginning of December will be strong, but it's looking like they're slowing down now that supply has increased to the point where demand has mostly been met (the Xbox One is available at most online retailers now and is dropping in place on Amazon's Bestsellers chart after staying in the Top 5 for 2+ weeks). I'm guessing 1.5m for December, 400k for January, 500k for February (as Titanfall anticipation starts to build up), and 850k for March (when Titanfall releases). That would put the Xbox One at 4.75 mil for the end of the 1st quarter. For the Wii U, I'm expecting 500k December, 250k January, 350k February (when Donkey Kong releases), and 300k March. That would place the Wii U at 5.7 million, still .95 million units ahead of the Xbox One. So I don't expect the Xbox One to pass the Wii U before March, unless Microsoft releases in most of the missing countries before March (they still haven't announced anything). I'm not willing to predict past March, there are still too many unknown release dates for exclusive games.

When Microsoft can sell it's Day one editions then i will believe they sold anything like 1million consoles.

Nintentacle (on 20 December 2013)

I'm predicting that it'll pass it Mid-2015.

I really don't get the numbers bias on this site in the last few months. Sony announce 80 mill PS3s shipped - MS announce 80 mill 360's shipped - within a month of each other (MS announced first) - yet 360 has just cracked 80 million sold (on this site) - and PS3 at 81.2 - as if there's one million in the channels of PS3 and less than 100K 360. This is based on this weeks numbers - and it was more pronnounced a few wekks agoi - but it's pretty fishy. Then we have MS announcing 2 million Xbox Ones sold, Sony announce 2.1 PS4's - but we have Xone at 1.5 million and PS4 at 2.4 million. I don't think there's been a proper console adjustment to these figures - to reflect hard data we know to be true as opposed to site projections - for months.

Sony announced 2.1 million PS4's at the start of December. What did it stop selling? MS only announced 1 million XBO's, so it makes sense.

Plus shipped =/= sold

You know only a few years ago people accused this website of inflating 360 numbers, VGC do their best, but fans will use anything to whine.

MS announced 2m sold as of Dec 9 and Sony announced 2.1m as of Dec 1. It's not that hard to understand that PS4 would reach 2.4m as of Dec 7. X1 is at 1.84m as of Dec 7 on VGC.

huh? What is the purpose of this article? No comparison of the sales over the launch period of both consoles, no charts, only the gap that everybody can calculate with the information found on this site?
