GameStop: Next Xbox 'Will be a Very Hot, Compelling Device' - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 03 April 2013 / 6,045 ViewsGameStop chief executive J. Paul Raines spoke with GamesIndustry International about the next generation Xbox and the PlayStation 4. He is very excited for Microsoft to show off its next Xbox. He said that Microsoft is working on some really cool stuff.
"We've been spending a lot of time with Microsoft, but we have to let them take the lead on this, but it will be a very hot, compelling device," said Raines. "They are doing some really cool stuff, and I'm eager to hear them start their announcements because I think the world is going to stand up and take notice."
Some people in the gaming industry have said that the next generation of consoles will sell less than the current generation. However Raines said people have been saying that every generation.
"...I was talking to one of our founders, Dan DeMatteo, and he was telling me every console cycle you get people who will say 'there will never be another console,' or 'what else can the consoles do?' And we just believe it's a cycle and we just haven't had a new product in so long. But we certainly don't believe that the new consoles won't be as exciting," he said.
Executive Vice President Michael P. Hogan stated that demand for the PlayStation 4 has been higher than any other device. "So the thing, for me, the real benchmark is the fact that our PowerUp members are saying that they're much, much more likely, and more excited about buying a PlayStation 4, even than around getting a new smartphone, a new tablet, a new laptop, all the other things they could buy."

unfortunate choice of words "very hot"...lol
lmao I thought the exact same thing.
red ring of death very hot? :D
better then getting hacked=)
Every generation we see more and more gamers. NES era had what 80 million gamers? SNES - 90 million, PS1 - 145 million, PS2 - 200 million, Wii - 260 million? That's just console gamers too, nevermind that the DS has sold 33% better then the Gameboy in 2/3rds the time.
Guess this puts to rest all those baseless speculations made by gaming "journalists" about the NextBox blocking used games.
I guarantee both the PS4 and NextBox will have the technology built in to block used games, but they will either leave it up to the publishers to decide to use it on a per game basis (like the online pass system this gen), or they will wait till a later time to slowly transition console gamers into it.
bring on the 720, I got the cash ready!!!
next gen will be very interesting with ps4/xbox 720 for consoles, the steambox/pc's and then ios/andriod/ouya
I thought that Gamestop didn't like the next Xbox?
Look at Sony loyalties they getting jealous now get a life please
6 red thumbs down clearly say they aren't upset at your comment :D or this article.
Look Microsoft... i don't care what your console can do. i care about what the rumors say it can't do: No Blu-Ray, means no movies. Always online is one of the stupidest ideas ever, and PS4 has already comfirmed it doesn't need that, neither does the Wii U. No used games is also stupid. So... for all I care, your console can come with an NVIDIA Titan Lite card (it's a joke...) but if all these rumors are true, prepare to face The Curse of the Third Console. Consoles with good games, but that fail next to the competiton. See N64, Saturn, and PS3. No bad consoles by any means, but because of dumb desicions, they ended up in third places in earlier console races.
Only time will tell if the Next XBOX is, or not what the rumors say.
those are just rumors, like the ps4 rumors which turn out not exactly like it said
What are you talking about?
All rumors have shown NextBox will have Blu-Ray.
The PS4 will have the very same "always on, always connected" capabilities as the NextBox. It's what the PS4 uses to do background updates while you system is "off" and how you get instant on gaming on the PS4 because of the actual low power state comparable to sleep mode. Both NextBox and PS4 will have this capability and only retarded journalists looking for hits decided to speculate that for some reason this meant no used games on 360. Yet here we have the CEO of a USED GAMES COMPANY saying the 720 will be a hot item. So obviously if it blocked used games, GameStop would not be saying this.
So to me it seems you greatly misunderstand what "always on, always connected" means. None of the rumors/leaks have ever said that this would be a DRM or used games blocking feature or that the console would not function without being online. Only the journalists commenting on the rumors/leaks have said such ridiculous things.
i buy the playstation 4... best games(software)-support ever and the hardware is amazing
I'm curious, how do you know a system will have the best games ever if it hasn't come out yet? Overall I'd say PS3 probably has my favorite collection of exclusives ever, but I'm not just going to assume PS4 will beat it. Definitely picking up PS4 day 1 with those 1st party studios though.
