Rumor: Next Generation PS and Xbox to be Revealed Around GDC in March

Game Informer has reported that both Sony and Microsoft will unveil their next generation home consoles around GDC, which takes place from March 25 to March 29. They said that both will wait to show off their next generation titles until E3.

"We hear that both Sony and Microsoft are targeting special Apple-style press conferences to unveil their platforms near the Game Developers Conference in late March," read the Game Informer report.

"E3 in June may be the industry's biggest event, but both companies want to give their systems their own limelight," the report continued. "That doesn't mean E3 won't be without its surprises. Next-gen games will be announced at the convention in preparation for the systems' release at the end of the year."

"We hear that Sony in particular is determined not to come out last this time like the PlayStation 3 did this generation, so we'll have to see how soon it can get the PlayStation 4 out the door, and whether Microsoft is motivated to prevent this from happening," the report added.

It's pretty given that PS4/NextBox will be announced this year with all the rumors circulating, and WiiU already released.

I never buy a console on launch day. it's stupid to do that. People payed twice as much for a biger PS3 with half the HDD mine. People who bought PSP on launch payed 3 times as much as I payed for the 3000 moddel, and they have the 1000. People payed 1/3 more than what I payed for my 360 on launch, and their consoles had RROD, mine doesn't. It's absurd to buy a console on launch day, other than the novelty of it. Specially when both MS and Sony have stated that PS3 and 360 will still have support till AT LEAST 2015. By then there'll probably be better versions of the 8th gen consoles out.

Launch ps3's have playstation 2 backwards compatibility tho... you can't get that with older models, you get a cheap wii model now which can't even play gamecube games nor infact allow you to connect gamecube controllers for games like Resi Evil 4 or Smash brothers brawl... You need to draw the line and buy a system at least before its features have all been stripped down to lower production costs.
