Weekly Sales Analysis, 30 June 2012 - Spec Ops, Spider-Man

Hardware sales week on week are up for the PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation Vita, and are down for the Wii, Xbox 360, DS, and 3DS. Overall sales are up one percent week on week. The 3DS is the only platform to be up year on year and even with it being up 59 percent. Overall sales are down by 37 percent year on year.
Six games debuted in the top 30 this week. Spec Ops: The Line (X360) debuted at number four with sales of 113,633. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number six with sales of 97,550. Software milestones this week in the top 30: Pokémon Black / White Version 2 (DS) crosses the two million mark.
Worldwide Hardware

Week on week sales are up for the PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation Vita, and are down for the Wii, Xbox 360, DS, and 3DS. The 3DS is at the top this week with sales of 159,868 units, which is down 3,438 (-2%). The PlayStation 3 is up 1,708 (1%) to 121,494 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are down 1,683 (-2%) to 88,872 units sold. The PlayStation Vita is up 13,125 (26%) to 63,975 units sold. The PSP sold 46,370 which is up 783 (2%) compared to last week. The Wii sold 43,568 units, which is down 1,446 (-3%). The DS is down 889 (-2%) to 37,331 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 8,160 (1%) to 561,478.
Year on year sales are up for the 3DS and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 is down 59,457 (-33%), the Wii is down 102,354 (-70%), and the Xbox 360 is down 60,200 (-40%). The PSP is down 88,235 (-66%) the DS is down 147,168 (-80%) and the 3DS is up 59,593 (59%). Year on year sales are down 333,846 (-37%).

The PlayStation 3 has increased for two weeks, while the Xbox 360 has decreased for one week and the Wii has decreased for three weeks. The PlayStation 3 has led every week this year and the Xbox 360 has been in second every week, except for the week ending January 7 where the Wii outsold it. The PlayStation 3 has a 48 percent market share; the Xbox 360 has a 35 percent market share; and the Wii has a 17 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all three home consoles are down.

The 3DS has outsold its predecessor, the DS, by more than 4 to 1, while the Vita outsold the PSP by 17,605 units. The PSP has a 55 percent market share this week for the current generation handhelds and the DS has a 45 percent. The 3DS has a 71 percent market share for the next generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 29 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
Worldwide Software
Six games debuted in the top 30 this week. Spec Ops: The Line (X360) debuted at number four with sales of 113,633. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number six with sales of 97,550. The game launched worldwide.
The Amazing Spider-Man (X360) debuted at number seven with sales of 93,933. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number nine with sales of 76,315. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of the Land of Twilight (PS3) debuted at number 11 with sales of 65,497. The game launched in Japan.
Culdcept (3DS) debuted at number 12 with sales of 53,898. The game launched in Japan.
Robotics;Notes (PS3) debuted at number 13 with sales of 51,145. The game launched in Japan.
Resident Evil Chronicles HD (PS3) debuted at number 23 with sales of 30,330. The game launched in Japan.
Other games in the top 10 that are not debuts include Pokémon Black / White Version 2 (DS) at the top with sales of 423,075. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (X360) is at number two with sales of 184,645. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (Wii) is at number three with sales of 142,179. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (PS3) is at number five with sales of 111,320.
Diablo III (PC) is at number eight with sales of 83,987. Pokemon + Nobunaga no Yabou (DS) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 71,049.

Week on week software totals are up across the board, except for the DS which is down. The PlayStation 3 sold 1.61 million games, an increase of 337,819 (27%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.44 million games this week, an increase of 187,807 (15%). The DS sold 943,737 games, a decrease of 1.27 million (-57%). Wii software sales are up 57,680 (7%) to 855,796. The 3DS sold 363,128 games, which is up 45,419 (14%). PSP game sales are up 953 (0%) to 217,286 games sold. The Vita sold 146,763 games, an increase of 17,686 (14%). Total combined software is down 625,732 (-10%) week on week to 5.57 million.
Year on year software totals are up for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, DS, and 3DS, and are down for the Wii and PSP. The PlayStation 3 is down 317,085 (25%), the Wii is down 542,033 (-39%) and the Xbox 360 is up 274,249 (24%). The DS is up 44,643 (5%), the PSP is down 126,162 (-37%) and the 3DS is down 21,554 (6%). Total combined software is up 136,099 (3%) games sold year on year.

The gap between the software sales of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 after six straight weeks of being within 100,000 of each other has grown to nearly 200,000 this week. The PlayStation 3 has lead for nine of the last 10 weeks, while the Xbox 360 led for the other one. The PlayStation 3 has a 41 percent market share, the Xbox 360 with 37 percent, and the Wii with 22 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago all three home consoles are down.

The DS has lead for nine out of the last ten weeks, and the 3DS lead for the other week. The DS has a 81 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 19 percent market share. The 3DS has a 71 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 29 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago the DS and Vita are up, while the PSP and 3DS are down.
