Overview
Hardware sales have recovered slightly week on week, as average sales are up three percent. The PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, DS, and Vita are up week on week. Year on year sales are down on average 25 percent, however the 3DS is up 59 percent.
Five games debuted in the top 30 this week. Diablo III (PC) debuted at the top of the charts with sales of 1.78 million. There are no software milestones this week in the top 30.
Worldwide Hardware

Week on week sales are up for the PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, DS, and Vita, and are down for the PSP and 3DS. The PlayStation 3 is at the top this week with sales of 137,034 units, which is up 7,297 (6%). The 3DS is down 1,231 (-1%) to 130,945 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are up 11,344 (11%) to 119,057 units sold. The Wii sold 63,413 units, which is up 1,342 (2%). The PlayStation Vita is up 1,734 (4%) to 50,380 units sold. The PSP sold 49,488, which is down 4,153 (-8%) compared to last week. The DS is up 570 (2%) to 35,633 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 16,903 (3%) to 585,950.
Year on year sales are down across the board, except for the 3DS which is up. The PlayStation 3 is down 3,633 (-3%), the Wii is down 98,999 (-61%), and the Xbox 360 is down 25,691 (-18%). The PSP is down 73,002 (-60%) the DS is down 92,508 (-72%) and the 3DS is up 48,799 (59%). Year on year sales are down 194,654 (-25%).

All three home consoles have seen their sales increase for one week. The PlayStation 3 has led every week this year and the Xbox 360 has been in second every week, except for the week ending January 7 where the Wii outsold it. The PlayStation 3 has a 43 percent market share; the Xbox 360 has a 37 percent market share; and the Wii has a 20 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all three home consoles are down.

The 3DS has outsold its predecessor, the DS, by nearly 4 to 1, while the Vita barely outsold the PSP. The PSP has a 58 percent market share this week for the current generation handhelds and the DS has a 20 percent. The 3DS has a 72 percent market share for the next generation of handhelds, while the Vita has a 28 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down
Worldwide Software

Max Payne 3 (X360) debuted at number two with sales of 470,990. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number three with sales of 397,788. The game launched in North America and Europe, and will release in Japan on September 6.
My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute Portable (PSP) debuted at number five with sales of 53,050. The game launched in Japan, with no plans to be released elsewhere.
Game of Thrones (X360) debuted at number 11 with sales of 34,738. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number 15 with sales of 31,165. The game launched in North America, and will release in Europe on June 1.
Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (PSP) debuted at number 29 with sales of 24,679. The game launched in Japan, with no plans to be released elsewhere.
Other games in the top 10 that are not debuts include Mario Part 9 (Wii) at number four with sales of 60,421. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (PS3) is at number six with sales of 43,308. Battlefield 3 (PS3) is at number seven with sales of 38,774. Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) is at number eight with sales of 37,561. Mario Kart 7 (3DS) is at number nine with sales of 36,094. Prototype 2 (X360) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 35,638.

Week on week software totals are down across the board. The PlayStation 3 takes the top spot this week with sales of 1.73 million, an increase of 255,957 (17%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.71 million games this week, an increase of 398,576 (30%). Wii software sales are down 28,902 (-3%) to 869,018. The DS sold 472,819 games, a decrease of 11,232 (-2%). PSP game sales are down 81,037 (39%) to 287,175 games sold. The 3DS sold 282,615 games, which is down 9,866 (-3%). The Vita sold 83,678 games, a decrease of 6,104 (-7%). Total combined software is up 679,466 (14%) week on week to 5.44 million.
Year on year software totals are down across the board, except for the 3DS which is up. The PlayStation 3 is down 86,532 (-5%), the Wii is down 430,779 (-33%) and the Xbox 360 is down 168,952 (-9%). The DS is down 378,017 (-44%), the PSP is down 78,212 (-21%) and the 3DS is up 111,476 (65%). Total combined software is down 17,360 (0%) games sold year on year.

The PlayStation 3 has sold the most games for a fourth week in a row and for the seventh time in ten weeks. The Xbox 360 led for the other three. The PlayStation 3 has a 40.1 percent market share, the Xbox 360 with 39.7 percent, and the Wii with 20.2 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago all three home consoles are down.

The DS leads this week and for the eighth time in 10 weeks, while the 3DS lead for two of the other weeks. The DS has a 62 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 38 percent market share. The 3DS has a 77 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has a 23 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
