Rapture is a place you will not forget. The epic starting chapter has you in a bathysphere descending upon the utopia after your plane crashes into the ocean near a deserted lighthouse. You are then shown a short movie detailing rapture, and why it was founded by a man called andrew ryan. After the movie ends you a shown the true rapture, which has changed quite.. Dramatically since the film was made. Nothing good can be said about rapture, as buildings are barely still standing, the inhabitants have gone postal due to genetic, and superficial alterations they had made to themselves, and psychopathic murder is more than common, it's entertainment.

This may seem creepy..-----
You soon after reaching rapture make contact with a resistance fighter named Atlas, who is trying to get his family out of this hell hole. He gives you guidance, and basic knowledge of plasmids to survive. He directs you to a plasmid vending machine, where you try out your first plasmid - electricity, this does not go well, and you go in and out of conciousness, helpless. You see your first big daddy and little sister up close at this moment, and as the game progresses, they are an integral part of the gameplay and the story. As you go to meet up with Atlas at a submarine where he is hiding his family, the area is overrun, and the sub is blown up. You then see Atlas escape as the area is overrun by splicers controlled by ryan. You make contact with heartbroken Atlas again, and you decide that Andrew Ryan must be stopped once and for all. The games' ending depends on whether you decide to kill, or save the little sisters. I saved them all, and I can tell you that it is the best and most rewarding ending. Hell, I'll say it: It's beautiful
Hidden details to the story can be found in audio tapes placed throughout Bioshock. I found that they added quite alot of depth, and made the story even more interesting, as you were hearing what was happening from different points of view. This makes me very excited, if not cautious for the movie, as I don't know if any director could pull off making a Bioshock movie with so many things like this going on.
Gameplay is basic FPS fare, with upgrade, ammo, and health machines spread throught levels for good measure. But that isn't to forget plasmids, or an injection that changes your human genome to give you powers. Such plasmids include Gust, electrocute, and the ability to control a big daddy, if you happen to find one in a level, among many others.

With this plasmid, be prepared for quite a shock!
Bioshock is genuinly creepy and eerie, but not all the time scary, if that makes sense. Dead bodies, writings in blood, blood smears, dark hallways, hospital rooms with mutilated bodies strung about, destroyed offices, and paper machete sculptures made out of... You guessed it, people, with blood leaking out and everything. But by far the coolest, and creepiest moment in the game would have to be Fort Frolic, where you meet a musician/artist that sends you on a quest to collect pictures of the macabre nature.. Along the way you are only witness to his madness.

-----But the things this guy is involved with are even worse..
Graphically Bioshock is good. Not the best, but they do enough to make sure the game creates the eerieness I have talked about all along. Not to mention is fluent animation that bioshock also has, so your experience is not interrupted by an object mysteriously powersliding across the floor after you shoot at a box of crates. The water effects are also a highlight of the game. They are good, really good, you can even he individual droplets seep through the ceiling!
The game has one of the most memorable stories of the past 5 years (if you pay attention), and its opening level leaves you frantically excited and curious about what's ahead. The atmosphere is gripping, chilling, enthralling and suspensful, and it'll never let you go. In my opinion, Bioshock has set the benchmark for storytelling, atmosphere, and presentation for the majority of games this gen. And it is a very high benchmark indeed. Bioshock is essential to any HD console game collection.
