After 21 years, Capcom made another perfect Remake.

When Resident Evil 4 Remake was announced, I feel that was a little unnecessary, as a person that grown up playing the franchise since the first game on PS1, I was sure that all modern games of the franchise do not need a remake so soon. Resident Evil 4 was groundbreaking, that influenced the game industry, and until today is a great game.

However, Capcom proved me wrong. Once again, they did a Remake perfect, after Resident Evil Remake in 2002 on the Gamecube. R4R improve the original and the formula of the modern remakes of the franchise at the peak of perfection.

It’s amazing how Capcom, improve the story and the lines here, this that was the biggest flaw in Resident Evil 2 Remake, when the story was practically the same for Leon and Claire, we had 4 storylines in the original and in the remake was almost 2, but all interaction and difference between each campaign was removed. Here Capcom keep the same level of humor and increase the background and the evolution of Leon as character. Now it’s much more realistic that the young guy of Resident Evil 2 is now at this point in his life. In the original where Leon was almost another character.

Besides that, now a lot of mistakes that did not aged well in the original were corrected. Leon does not act like a crazy American that enter in other people houses, assume that everyone talks English and shoot first. Also, now the relation between Ashley and Leon is by far better, without all the sexual vibe in many of the old dialogues, where old characters talk about a teenager boob.

Additionally, all lore about the Ganado’s and Salazar family was significantly expanded and linked with all other remakes. Capcom are trying to rewrite small things of the lore to keep all remakes more cohesive than was in the past.

The gameplay keeps the same level of quality from Resident Evil 2 Remake, but received a big feature here, the parry. Now with Leon knife you can parry a range of different attacks of the enemies. Albeit the knife takes a damage when you use as parry, so you need to always choose the best moment to use it, save munition and avoid health damage. Even the chainsaw enemy can be deflected with this new system.

Finally, with a good DLC and a great mercenaries mode Resident Evil 4 Remake is a perfect re-imagination of the original game and shows that Capcom always can do great remakes.
