SONIC CLASSIC COLLECTION DEBUTS ON THE NINTENDO DS

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (December 1, 2009) -- SEGA Europe Ltd and SEGA of America, Inc. today announced that, for the first time ever, the original games from legendary gaming icon, Sonic the Hedgehogwill be coming to the Nintendo DS™ system. Available in early 2010,  Sonic Classic Collectiongathers together the first four Sonic The Hedgehog adventures - Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles - introducing some of the most influential Sonic the Hedgehog titles to a whole new generation of DS gamers.

Sonic Classic Collection allows fans old and new to speed through the much loved zones of the four original Genesis adventures, in a bid to collect the Chaos Emeralds and save the world. Sonic Classic Collection will offer a new save feature, a first for Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic The Hedgehog 2, as well as a video recounting the history of Sonic offering gamers an in-depth look at the speedy hedgehog.

“The original Sonic the Hedgehog games were the start of a pop culture phenomenon that extended beyond just the video game world,” commented Sean Ratcliffe, Vice-President of Marketing for SEGA of America.  “The Sonic Classic Collection will introduce a whole new generation of gamers to this beloved Hedgehog and take them back to his humble beginnings.”

@sonicshuffle: Sonic Rush and its sequel I found boring to be honest. It barely focused on platforming and it was just speed and almost nothing else. Classic Sonic was very enjoyable because it had really good level design and platforming. (Not to mention, they vary a lot, especially in Sonic 3 and Knuckles). Speed shouldn't be the only ingredient to make a good Sonic game.

I'd never understand the big praise the Rush series get. Sure it's 10x better than the awful 3D crap we get but really...

@NinjaV. I wonder that too. The DS can handle it, and SCD is the best 2D Sonic IMO.

@roflinator.

Guess you haven't played Sonic Rush or its sequel.

Anyone know if you can play the 'linked' version of Sonic 3 +Knuckles? You couldn't on the Sega Collection which put me off, but I've read that you can on the XBL versions.

Well, technically Sonic 3, and Sonic and Knuckles are the same game. It simply needed to be split, or the Sonic and Knuckles stages would have been canceled to meet the deadline like the 8, or so stages that got cut from Sonic 2...

Anyway, since Sonic 2 is missing those 8 stages, it doesn't need a save feature, and Sonic 1's level selection code is so impossible to forget that it doesn't need one either.. And, Sonic 1 only has what, seven stages?... Even if I had a DS, I wouldn't buy it. If you're going to make efforts to change the game, do something worth changing, or leave it alone....

How long will we have to wait to see those 8 stages return that were dropped from Sonic 2? That's what it's going to take for me to get a Sonic collection. The time travel and the 8 cut stages they originally planned to include.

Great for me, I didn't want to buy the collection on the GC but on a portable console this is perfect.

Those that are complaining about this being the same thing again should, just maybe and just as my good advice to you, just not buy it!Did you think about that already before making stupid comments?

@all people saying it was on many other compilations. Was it ever all on a portable compilation? No? Didn't think so.

The same games all over again? I mean, I've bought Sonic Mega Collection for my GameCube 3 months ago because I don't have a Ps3/360 and it was cheaper than getting every single game for VC, and now they're on the DS... It's absurd...

@Bman54: But this is the collection I was waiting for. Any handheld deserves Sonic. Hopefully the co-operative shot at the top is real!

Also: WIN!!!
