The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

My God, PS4 had incredible sales numbers, and now PS5 is beating PS4. PS5 didn't sell so much, only because of availability issues, can you imagine how many consoles Sony would have sold, if there wasn't supply constraints?

I notice that PS3 sales are included the second two charts, I guess by accident. However, I would LOVE for you to do a post including all of Sony's home PlayStation consoles - PSone launching in Sep 1995, PS2 in Oct 2000, PS3 in Nov 2006, PS4 in Nov 2013 and finally PS5 in Nov 2020. It would be great to see all five laid out together.

I guess there are no monthly numbers for PS1 and PS2. PS3 sales are just for comparison.

Correct. VGChartz estimates only go back to the 7th generation. I'd you look at the Xbox sales comparison for Japan you will notice the OG Xbox is just lifetime sales. I guess I could add lifetime PS1 and PS2 lines.

I would be okay with this :)

Why would it be there by accident?

Because the article title and everything in the article pertains to only PS4 vs PS5, with all of the graphs also only saying PS4 vs PS5, with no mention of PS3 whatsoever?
