Read details on the game below:
Expanding the universe that we created for the original Pillars of Eternity games, Avowed brings a new perspective, a new way to fight, and a new land to explore in the world of Eora. The Pillars games are near and dear to us and we can’t wait to share Avowed with everyone next year.
In Avowed, you’ll explore the Living Lands, a plagued, wild island set in the world of Eora. The Living Lands are full of mysteries and secrets, danger and adventure, and choice and consequences.
Unique to the world of Eora, the Living Lands is home to bustling port towns and rolling hills adorned with weird and fantastical plant life. Every part of the Living Lands is home to its own ecosystem. Around every corner there are creatures, sentient mushrooms, or tribes of lizard-like Xaurips looking to make you their next meal…
As with all our past RPGs, the companions in Avowed play a major role in your adventure. The first companion you will find is Kai, the narrator of this gameplay trailer. Kai is a Coastal Aumaua currently residing in the Living Lands and is one of the only friendly faces you’ll find here. He is a former soldier, and his idealistic and pragmatic temperament will help guide you as you venture out into this wild frontier.
First-person combat has been a huge focus for us. We’ve incorporated a host of ways for players to fight the flora and fauna of the Living Lands. You will have swords, shields, pistols, magical spells, and more at your disposal, including the ability to dual wield, creating a vast number of combinations to choose from.
With combat so full of possibility, diversity in choice will be needed as you explore the treacherous Living Lands. Home to the Xuarips, plagued undead, and dangerous flora, this island is full of unique enemies to encounter.

This was probably my lone disappointment for this entire showcase. I trust Obsidian to create a good game and it may still turn out to be good in the end, but I am really not a fan of the change in art direction compared to the original trailer, and although it was a limited glimpse the game looks more AA than AAA.
However, as with most Obsidian titles the story will make or break this game. I will give them the benefit of the doubt.
Game looks different from what I was expecting. I just got an "meh" feeling from watching that trailer. Hoping future showcases change my mind about it.
Art direction definitely changed from the original teaser, but Obsidian's take on an Elder Scrolls style game will continue to have me intrigued. Especially if that Obsidian signature writing is as present as ever.
The last trailer they showed was just CGI
The visuals are disappointing, was expecting more from an unreal engine 5 game but I am glad we have an idea of when it's releasing
Man that gameplay - if you can call it that - looked rough. I trust Obsidian writers, but that combat ! Yikes.
And that's even before I mention the 360 level graphics.
Now this looks awesome. This game just went tot he very top of my list, definitely the best game for me that was shown.
I actually like that they are following the same art style as the original games. This is one game i am looking forward to. I love the Pillar games.
Not a graphically impressive game but gameplay looks great and it certainly fits the art style of the PoE universe.
Looks last gen, service budgets kicking in.
Art direction was intentional from an interview with Obsidian’s CEO. They decided after starting development that they didn’t want to make it their version of Elder Scrolls. Obsidian doesn’t have budget concerns anymore.
Perhaps it's not about budget, but work force. Obsidian isn't a big studio, they have limits.
Anyway, it's indeed looking very last gen.
True. We’ll have to see what kind of updates we get as time goes on. Having a general 2024 window, we may be looking at almost a year and a half from now before it releases.
