The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Wii.

The Wii launched in November 2006, while the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

August 2022 is the 66th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for in the US. During the latest month, the Switch has caught up with the Wii when you align the launches by 211,162 units.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the Wii by 2.25 million units. The Wii is currently ahead of the Switch by 2.48 million units.

The 66th month for the Nintendo Switch is August 2022 and for the Wii it is April 2012. The Switch has sold 36.77 million units, while the Wii sold 39.25 million units during the same timeframe. The Wii sold current Switch sales in month 61.

The Wii sold 41.70 million units in the US during its lifetime. The Switch needs to sell another 4.93 million units to outsell the Wii.

Doesn't look too bad, Wii has at this point barely anything left. So one semi-good year for Switch should be enough. Possibly it will already get in front over the holidays, but the Wii will take back the lead with it's holiday.

Considering how weak the Wii's holiday is and how big the releases are for the Switch this year, there's a chance that the Wii won't be able to come back on top after it's holiday period anymore.

Switch is just 4.93 mil behind will lifetime. It can sell that much easily by March 2023

so like the PS3 it will outsell after the generation is over, the Wii sales are already heavily affected by the upcoming Wii U launch at this point in the generation.

The last Wii only Christmas is already over in this chart (Wii U was selling at month 72, month 60 was the last big one).
