Solid Launch and thanks for the early data!
Hope all consoles are able to keep up the demand of real players.
Damn. I didn’t think the OLED model would give Switch that much of a boost. Almost a million units .
WOW! they could be much higher sales, best buy is sold out. Wonder how many of these can sell over the holidays?
I was disappointed that the Oled was not a Switch Pro that could better keep up with the new generation. I didn't like the price of the Oled. But clearly Nintendo knew what they were doing. The Switch train will keep rolling for a while yet.
Sales for Metroid Dread must be off the charts for the franchise if sales for the new console revision are this high.
It is possible that Nintendo wanted to upgrade the internals of the Switch, but was deterred by the semiconductor shortage.
Or maybe they thought that since we're already almost 5 years into the gen why not use the PRO,s resource to make a next gen switch in a few years
Seems that helped 2021 Switch regain some lost track against 2020 Switch. Can 2021 Switch pull a Sifan Hassan?
haha love the running reference on vgchartz. For a second I was like uhhh is this Letsrun?!
Nice good to see the sales explosion. Big numbers were bound to happen as sales had been slow all summer ever since the OLED was announced. Hopefully it'll be above 500k next week and maybe bottom at 400k for a few weeks before heading into a huge holiday season.
Wow, that is one hell of a boost for the Switch.
That's a bit more than my estimated 600-700k. Congrats!
Amazing what a simple screen and design update does for the Switch. Like this actually enough and they can still make the Switch plus if they want to stretch the Switch is lifetime
Holy smoke, that's a lot of units sold! It seems to show that there really was a wait from consumers to get it instead of the older models.
Amazing OLED the KING
I estimated around 900k, looks like I wasn't very far off this time around
Nintendo dominated this holiday season already
Impressive numbers. With so few OLED switches left especially in the US and Japan means this won't last long. Hopefully Nintendo can get enough consoles out there to keep demand in check
What was going on last year that the switch sold over 500,000? Is my memory foggy and that was every week?
The pandemic slowed down life for a lot of people,, and Animal Crossing: New Horizon was unbelievably popular, in part as another result of the pandemic. Those two things turned out to be a huge boon for the Switch.
Nah, it's obviously Pikmin 3 Deluxe.
I know the switch was killing it last year. I just didn't remember it being that high. I thought maybe there was something specific a year ago. But yeah I guess it was just the continued popularity.
Wow, that's a lot. I optimistically thought about 750k. Don't know many who predicted 861k! Awesome!! And PS5 & Xbox pulled in great numbers as well. Hope they can all keep it up!
Switch sales will keep increasing exponential and disproportionately. And better games are also coming.
Suprising that the OLED gave the Switch more of a boost then the Lite did.
Why ?
The Lite is cheaper. If you are gonna buy multiple Switch systems for a household it makes sense to go for the Lite.
Yeah but the OLED would appeal to the Lite users and the V1 users, which represents about 45 million users
Nice but I stick on my prediction. Next gen console will be announced next year for a release in 2023
Unlikely. Not with such high sales and the constant CEO comments about this year being the halfway point. Holiday 2024 at the earliest.
Nintendo doesn't care about power. They care about sales. The only thing that can crater switch sales would be an announcement like that. They'll ride it out.
No there will be a next gen switch in 2023
Yeah. An announcement next year would submarine the OLED sales. That has to be a year of solid sales at minimum.
They'll announce a successor the same way they did with the switch. Either October 2024 for March 2025 or June 2024 for November 2024.
You also predicted that sales would drop after christmas 2020, but here we are
haha that was never going to happen. It'll be Spring or Holiday 2024. It would make zero sense to replace Switch before 2024. 2023 will have the last big round of huge first party games on Switch, no reason to launch a new system that year.
Metroid being one of the more niche Nintendo franchises, I would imagine the boost wont be that much, as in die hard Metroid fans probably already owned a Switch.
