Assassin's Creed Valhalla Beats Call of Duty to Top UK Charts - Sales

Assassin's Creed Valhalla debuted in the top spot on the retail UK charts, according to GfK for the week ending November 14, 2020.

Launch week sales at retail for Assassin's Creed Valhalla were more than double the launch of Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The PS4 version accounted for 42 percent of the sales, the Xbox version (Which combines the Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S versions on one disk) for 40 percent, while the PS5 version for 18 percent.

What is remarkable is the latest Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War also debuted this week and in second place. This is the first time in 13 years a Call of Duty did not debut in first. The game at retail sold 64 percent fewer copies than 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. 39 percent of the sales were on the PS4, 34 percent on the Xbox One, 17 percent on the PS5, and nine percent on the Xbox Series X and S.

If you were to include digital sales, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War might have debuted in first place as Activision Blizzard's EMEAA MD Anna Malmhake said the game "set a new record as the highest first day digital sales worldwide in franchise history."

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales debuted in third place as sales were 56 percent lower than the launch of 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man. 71 percent of the sales were on the PS5 and 29 percent on the PS4. With the PS5 not actually launching until November 19, it is possible people are waiting to pick up the game for the PS5 on launch day.

Other PS5 games debuting on the charts includes the remake of Demon's Souls in sixth place, Sackboy: A Big Adventure in 13th, and Godfall in 15th place.

Just Dance 2021 debuted in 11th place with 89 percent of the sales coming on the Nintendo Switch. Launch sales were 133 percent higher than Just Dance 2020.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon debuted in 20th place with 65 percent of the sales on the PS4 and 35 percent on the Xbox consoles.

And the PS4 version is a free upgrade to PS5 as well so it's actually 60/40 in terms of the split between PS and Xbox.

How can disc sales of Call of Duty include Series S version of the game if the Series S does not have a disc drive?

Good point, unless they're counting those download codes you can buy at retail. But wouldn't that still be a digital sale?
