2015 has come and gone, but it managed to produce some of the better titles of the generation so far. The shooter category is one of the better examples of this; it played host to a colourful new IP, the return of an old IP that hasn't had a new entry for years, the first mainline Halo title of the generation, one of the most significant expansions in years, and a return to some good old fashioned Nazi killing.

Awesome for Splatoon, though I am kinda shocked COD isn't even nominated. That usually takes the cake when it comes to shooters. Also, seems weird to have an expansion of a game up for a nominee.

No Call of duty BO3 in the list? anyway, for me COD is the winner. So much content in it makes more valuable for me.

I'm quite happy the award went to something a bit different for once. Nintendo did really well with Splatoon.
I can't speak to the quality of other shooters since I haven't played any of the other ones. I will say though that Splatoon certainly stands out visually among nominees.
Still, I have to wonder was Overwatch not considered because it's in beta? What about the latest CoD?
This is amazing! I never thought the day would come when Nintendo creates a great shooter. All of the praise splatoon gets is well deserved. Hopefully Nintendo can keep Splatoon running, and make more great IP's in the future

Sad really that aside from Splatoon the options were sequel, sequel, expansion pack and sequel.

To be fair, Splatoon is the first time I've bought a competitive shooter in the same year that it launched, and it exceeded my personal expectations. Super fun, and the single player feels like a full fledged 3D platformer.
Its the best game of 2015, not just the best shooter, I have/still had so much fun with this game, and its a timely reminder to the gaming community just how relevent Nintendo still are to the industry.
Props to Nintendo... now please give us a Metroid FPS guys!
Halo 5 was more deserving
Halo 5 is fantastic, definitely the best FPS on the market. As for shooter Splatoon is pretty good.
i also voted for Splatoon to piss off the other shooter fanbases lol, i hate this genre in general
haha, I knew this would be given to the only Nintendo shooter. All that graphical excellence available to vote for but nope, there's a nintendo game. I'd give it to Wolfenstein myself.
Hmmm the fact that black ops 3 isn't nominated is truly suspect as it does many things right. This coming from a non Cod guy (I highly dislike it if anything). Splatoon only won because every wiiU owner voted for it lol. It doesn't tie BO3's shoes tbh, but oh well.
I don't think Splatoon is meant to tie COD's shoes. I think it was more to provide people with a new pair of fresh, funky shoes xD

Better regarding one sites votes? Splatoon sits on a 81 meta where as Halo 5 sits on a 84. I wouldn't say its better both completely different games, heck one isn't even a FPS game.
Personally, having played both, I think Splatoon is better in every way.
@Aidah? You mean like voice chat? You gotta admit, "in every way" is a bit of an exaggeration.
Splatoon has been drowned Free DLC since it came out and the Meta scores don't take any of that into account... The vote is for the game as it is now Not as it was when it first released... I think most people would agree that the current version edges Halo 5 out in Most areas.
I think most people haven't played both games to form such an opinion and most people who would agree with you would be Ninty fans. I can't picture a Halo fan actually preferring Splatoon over Halo. Also, according to Halo fans, Halo 5 has the best multi-player to date.
As for the meta, keep in mind that Halo is like the 7th Halo so far, while Splatoon is a new IP and as such gets critiqued less harshly (see Little Big Planet 1,2,3).
