The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.
This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

June 2026 is the 13th month the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for. During the latest month, the Switch 2 has outsold the Switch 1 by 18,965 units when you align the launches.
In the last 12 months, the Switch 2 has outsold the Switch 1 by 2.90 million units. The Switch 2 is ahead of the Switch 1 by 5.97 million units.
The 13th month for the Switch 2 is June 2026, while for the Switch 1 it is March 2018. The Switch 2 has sold 21.84 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 15.87 million units during the same timeframe.
The Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 155.17 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 133.33 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

Switch 2 will sell less than Wii lifetime. Switch 1 lifetime will be around 158 m
That's kind of impossible if you ask me. Switch 2 is outperforming the Wii right now, it might end up slowing under it for a year or 2, but Wii's downfall was so catastrophic. The concept of the Wii was novel at first but it really got old, gamers were leaving the platform and the casual audience was also leaving it with the popularity of HD TV storming the market and Wii being the only one not reaching that resolution. Everything was against it, and seeing how beloved Switch 2 is, there is almost no chance Switch 2 will just crash that hard. It is so far selling at record level numbers without most of their key franchises. Imo, it probably won't match the Switch 1 sales, but it will most definitely at least reach PS4 high 110s territory.
Nothing impossible, next year switch 2 will be sold around $599.99. And 2028 will be even worse $649.99, RAM & NAND price will stay high until 2030. Now PCBs cost also hiked by 50%, capacitors also going up so materials costs are expensive. TSMC manufacturing cost also hiked by 10%. CPU & GPU price also going up because of that. Shipping cost also expensive due to war in middle east. Many people won't buy expensive consoles & stay on their old consoles & wait until sale which won't come until at least 2030s. Switch 2 will peak around Xbox 360 lifetime sales with the worse outcome is above 3ds lifetime sales. And important to remember there will be no covid boost

NS2 is really off to an amazing start!
Its actually wild how NS1 fell behind the Wii on and off until Covid hit...
Still wondering if it will overtake the PS2 before its all said and done.
i think the PS2 is just out of reach but only time will tell.
Another note: the Wii held the record for 20 years. After launch quarter + first full 4 quarters on the market, the Wii (including handhelds) was the highest selling console ever released (I believe that will be represented on the graphs after the next month). Switch 2 is now the fastest selling gaming console in history
with the prices of the Xseries and PS5 and with nextbox and PS6 prices expected to be higher i wonder if the switch 2 can catch the switch ?
Switch 2 is just 1 year old. However with Switch 2 price will keep increasing in the next 4 years (I expect it will be sold at $599.99 next year & $649.99 in 2028, if the RAM situation keep getting worse we way see $699.99/$749.99 for Switch 2). It will sell way worse than Switch 1, no Covid boost either. Switch 2 will be 3DS/PS3 correction era. It will sell somewhere between 3DS/Xbox 360 lifetime sales (it could be lower if price hitting $749.99, maybe at NES level). Well all 3 consoles platforms need to survive or evolve to something different. Nowadays only VR gaming industry faced a dead end. But consoles aren't "yet". Many younger boys nowadays are only play smartphones games, so consoles becoming more niche than ever. They need to get new audiences, well cloud gaming could be the solution. Cloud gaming could be the next frontier, Netflix/Spotify of gaming. But it depends on the execution, Stadia dead, Luna on live support & Nvidia GeForce now just discontinued in South East Asia
