LOL 360 and Wii are still ahead of PS3 and Jack Tretton said they are running out and have nothing left in them. SCEA Ceo just wow. Every prediction he make on the future of gaming turn out to be wrong. Also those who thought the PS3 will pass the 360 in terms of sales. LOL GT5 is Sony Exclusive and only sold 6.8m copies while Halo 3 and Super Mario Galaxy sold above 11m. Ashamed to those who thought that.

360 numbers shock me. How is software stronger in 2011 when Kinect was brand new last year and pushed 8 million units alone. Waiting on PSV release so we can finally start comparing PSV to 3DS (8th gen) instead of the old DS vs. PSP (7th gen). It's 8th gen almost.

"The DS has a 77 percent market share and the PSP has a 23 percent market share." : I think you meant DS+3DS and not only "DS" as total = 100 %

trunkswd (on 09 December 2011)

Meant to be about the current gen, so that doesn't include the 3DS. Once the PS Vita is out, I'll compare that to the 3DS. I want to keep the generations separate for this article.

Isn't 3DS the current gen for hand helds? It's been around for nearly a year, and all of Nintendo's big games go to it. PSV is just around the corner, I think the 8th gen has started for hand helds.

@Michael-F No it's not cause it not apart of the DS Family. This is a new generation DS. If it was then it will not have enhance graphic, features, and others stuff. Plus It is backward compatible with DS(i) games as well but no Gameboy slots. It offers new games and only for 3DS not DS.

@Michael-5 I agree. The 8th generation for handhelds at least has begun, so its obvious the 3DS will dominate especially after the release of Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. I strongly suspect the 3DS will dominate the handheld market (not including the I-phone and tablet computer market which has took many casual gamers off the market) and the Vita will only be as successful as the PSP, especially with those expensive memory cards.

yo_john117 (on 09 December 2011)

Can't believe that the 360 is up YOY considering what happened last year.

butcherknife (on 09 December 2011)

Wow. The PS3 needs a price drop to $199.

Baalzamon (on 15 December 2011)

No, it doesn't. The PS3 sales are perfectly fine. To simply cut the price of a console by $50 just because the gap between the 360 and PS3 is large is downright dumb.

They need to continue making money on every PS3 sold to help Sony's financials look at least halfway decent, not cut the price by $50 and make their financial statements look worse.
