James Cameron Talks About Possible Avatar MMO
by Alex Hanna, posted on 27 September 2011 / 930 ViewsIn an interview with IGN James Cameron spoke about bringing the Avatar unverse to the game world (not including the bad tie-in game to the film) as well as 3D in gaming.
In regards to the Avatar MMO, he described it as the "perfect IP for an MMO." While admitting that the world might not seem big enough for an MMO based of the first movie, he believes that players will begin to see the full scope of Pandora as well as the Avatar universe after the release of his Avatar novel and the two sequel films, set for 2014 and 2015 releases. The interview didn't specify any sort of gameplay elements.
Addressing 3D gaming, Cameron said that he loved 3D gaming as it was "another reason to buy a 3D display" and went on to predict that within five years people will be demanding 3D in all aspects of their entertainment and if we watch something that is in 2D, it will be the same as someone today watching something in black and white.
James even took a moment to address those who don't care for 3D. Using the argument that humans view the world in 3D and returning to the "3D is the new colour" argument from earlier, he made it clear that he believes that everyone will come to expect 3D as the norm when it comes to everything in entertainment, saying, "All life on earth is hardwired for 3D."
What do you think of Cameron's opinions on 3D? Would you play an Avatar MMO? Let us know in the comments!
