Dissidia 012 Gets Release Window, New Features, Tifa
by Nicholas Taylor, posted on 21 September 2010 / 2,457 ViewsSquare-Enix recently announced a sequel to the 2008 release Dissidia: Final Fantasy, entitled Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy. We reported on it earlier, confirming that Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII and Kain from Final Fantasy IV would both be in the game. Since then, it has been confirmed that Tifa Lockhart from the immensely popular Final Fantasy VII will also be joining the fray.
Also, the release window for the game has been minimized - while it was previously set for a vague 2011 release in Japan, it is now set for a Spring 2011 release. Not just that, but it's also been confirmed for a 2011 release in America and Europe as well.
As for new features, Square-Enix showed off some alternate costumes at the Tokyo Game Show 2010. However, the costumes come at a hefty price unless you've already planned a few other purchases. Below, you'll find pictures of Lightning dressed as Aya Brea from Parasite Eve, as well as Cloud Strife, main protagonist of Final Fantasy VII (as if you didn't already know), dressed in his Kingdom Hearts attire.
To obtain these, you will have to buy The 3rd Birthday and Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep: Final Mix, respectively. Sounds like US/EU fans are out of luck regarding Cloud's costume then, since Final Mix games in the Kingdom Hearts series have never been released here before, and aren't likely to start now. The costumes will be obtained by downloading them with a special code you can only get by purchasing the aforementioned games.
Regarding the reasons why this was implemented, Nomura had the following to say: "The Aya costume is a collaboration that was realized because production on Dissidia and The 3rd Birthday were running in parallel, and the development teams are in the same group. The Final Mix costume has the same reason. Also, the release dates were near, so we decided to link them."
He also hinted at more downloads to come, saying that, "This time, Dissidia is full of these types of download elements, so look forward to a followup report."
