by William D'Angelo , posted on 06 August 2010 / 4,570 ViewsOverview – The PlayStation 3 receives a boost on the release of the white PS3 slim in Japan, the Wii is flat week on week, and the Xbox 360 continues to drop but at a much lower rate than before. It is a strong week for debuts as 3 games debut with over 200,000 in sales. StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty (PC) debuts with sales of over 1 million worldwide, to make it one of the top debuts of the year to this point.

Hardware – Week on week sales are up for Sony’s systems, flat for Nintendo’s systems and down for Microsoft’s system. Both the PlayStation 3 and PSP saw sales rise in Japan on strong software debuts and a new white model for the PS3. They are up 29,000 and 17,000 respectively. The DS and Wii remain flat on a few games that debuted outside of the top 10. The Xbox 360 drops 26,000 as the initial bump from the 360S starts to shrink. However that may change with the release of the 360S Arcade model this week in America.
The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 continue to outperform where they were a year ago, up an impressive 54,000 and 90,000 respectively. The Wii, DS, and PSP continue to be down a considerable amount compared to last year. The Wii is down 154,000, dropping slightly below the PlayStation 3 this week. The DS is down 167,000, year over year, but it remains at the top as the only system over 200,000. The PSP is down 43,000.

The Xbox 360 has outsold the PlayStation 3 for the 7th straight week and the Wii for the 5th time in six weeks. The drop for the Xbox 360S has shrunk this week compared to last week. With the release of the 4 GB 360S Arcade in America for $199, expect sales to increase slightly for next week. The Wii sales stop the recent trend of small drops each week, as it has 6 out of the past 8 weeks. The PlayStation 3 jumps in sales on software releases in Japan, to be slightly ahead of the Wii worldwide.
Software – After a light week of debuts, this week sees some major titles debut. The biggest game for the year on the PC, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty debuted at number 1, with sales of 1,341,000. The other top 2 debuts were in Japan. Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes (PS3) debuts at number 2 with sales of 240,000. Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2nd (PSP) debuts at number 3 with sales of 225,000.
Some other debuts in the top 50 are Kamen Rider Battle: Ganbaride Card Battle Taisen (DS) at number 14 with sales of 59,000 and Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes (Wii) at number 16 with sales of 51,000. Metal Max 3 (DS) debuts at the 21st spot with sales of 41,000 and Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga (PSP) at number 36 with sales of 25,000.
Rounding out the top 10 at positions four through ten were Wii Sports with sales of 122,000, Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii) with sales of 107,000, Wii Sports Resort with sales of 97,000, Wii Party with sales of 82,000, Pokémon Heart Gold / Soul Silver Version for the DS with sales of 70,000, Red Dead Redemption for the X360 with sales of 61,000 and Red Dead redemption for the PS3 with sales of 60,000.

Overall, software is up for Sony’s system week on week and remains relatively flat for Nintendo’s and Microsoft’s systems. The PlayStation 3 is up 17% and the PSP 36%.
Year on year is a mix with some increasing while others fell. The PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PSP are all up, 62%, 12%, and 59% respectively. The DS and Wii are down, falling 15% and 41% respectively. The Wii is down such a high percentage as Monster Hunter Tri debuted one year ago.

I am wondering if Nintendo will continue pushing out Wii systems until the Christmas period, because when it comes to Christmas, Wii and DS are always a consideration for people you want to spend ~$100-200 who don't yet have one or both of the mentioned.
It's weird to see all 3 systems performing so well. Especially when you see how old the systems are getting.
unless we got some in tonight I don't think we've gotten any of the Arcade units yet...hmmm I'll check tomarrow
Just checking, but wasn't it originally stated that SC2 sold 1.8 million copies on day 1 w/o Korea?
Anyways, don't know what others think, but I honestly see ps3 and 360 beating the Wii for several more weeks (starting this week for the both of them, 360 started when the slim launched) since nothing huge is really coming out for the Wii.
I think a 20K bump for 360 in Americas from Slim Arcade.
