A Way Out Developer Explains Why the Game is Not Coming Out on Switch - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 22 March 2018 / 5,251 ViewsHazelight Studios during a Reddit AMA explained why its upcoming game, A Way Out, is not coming out on the Nintendo Switch.
"As for Switch, we’re definitely fans of the console over here, but there were some factors preventing us from doing a Switch release," said programmer Lucas de Vries. "It came out quite late in our development cycle, and we’ve been very busy spending all our time getting the game to the highest quality we could make it.
"Also, since both players require their own camera control, it would mean that you would be forced to buy an extra pro controller to even play the game, which seems like it would be a little unfair to the concept of the Switch. It would have been quite an effort to make an automatic camera system to make single-joycon play work."
A Way Out will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC via Origin on March 23.

Now the first reason is fairly obvious and makes all sense in the world. I've noticed some people have a problem understanding this in general.
...The second one is questionable. I absolutely understand what they're trying to say, but it's not something you need to overthink. At all. Just focus on standard gameplay then. If they need another controller, they need another controller.
Don't treat the Switch like a, "can't find unique experiences for the Wii U Gamepad" issue.
The first reason is completely fair, but the second one is weird. Wouldn't you be forced to buy other controllers to do multiplayer on other systems too? And why they had to use single joycons? Plenty of games on Switch uses both joycons/Pro Controller only,I can't see why would that be big of a deal for Switch owners. The system already comes with two joy cons, buy one pro controller and you're good to go for multiplayer.
That's total BS! 2 joy cons have the same functionality as the Pro so you'd only have to buy 1 extra controller for couch coop. Plus the coop can also be played online!
I hope development teams don't start avoiding the Switch if they can't make a two player experience via one joycon controller work. It's nice that people clearly make an effort to make that work, but if it's just too complicated to control the game via a single joycon they shouldn't feel as if that should preclude a port. I think reason #1 makes perfect sense, though, and I suspect it's the vast majority of their reasoning on this one; reason #2 was likely just a concern they discussed about any potential port, choosing not to pursue it for now.
Ok the first option is kinda fair but the second one is bullshit. Oh no, they'll have to buy a second controller for co-op! We can't possibly burden Switch owners with the same effing requirements as other platforms. This is almost as dumb as when Cliffy B said the Switch didn't have enough buttons. Of course he probably thew that answer in there to avoid questions about the first answer which while technically somewhat fair smells more and more like BS the further we get out from the Switch's launch.
A game like this requires communication and with the Swith’s odd cell phone requirement for voice chat, it’s obvious very few will use the feature - especially in random matchmaking.
Not if EA continues to barely support the Switch, which is both a blessing and a curse lol
